Puppy has bald spot & hard lump after dog bite. Will hair regrow?

I can't really see the pink area you are referring to in your picture, but I agree that the laceration appears to be healed. I am wondering if the pink area is simply an area of new scar tissue. Occasionally there will be granulation tissue that inhibits full skin healing, but this is usually red tissue that bleeds. If the wound is not completely healed a surgical procedure may be necessary. She is probably due for vaccines at some point in the near future; you may want to have your veterinarian examine the area the next time she goes in for vaccine boosters.

It will eventually fall off and the hair grow back if this was just a simple infection. Scabbing/hair loss can be caused by a number of things including infections from bacteria/yeast/fungus on the skin, allergies, metabolic changes internally, wounds or scratches, parasites, and more. Making sure Rosie is on a good monthly flea and tick preventive may help if you see parasites. If the area is not improving or is expanding in size it is best to have your vet take a look. They may recommend taking a skin scraping of the area to have it tested for possible causes. Be sure to also let your vet know of any other changes such as changes in appetite or energy levels. As some infections can be contagious to other pets and people, washing your hands after handling the area is best to help minimize spread.

If it was a wound then it may take several days before you see hair starting to regrow. However, if it is ringworm or something else then it may take weeks to see improvement. I think it is always a good idea to have it looked at. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Hair regrowth is different in pace with each different dog, it may be very fast or very slow, it is totally random and unpredictable. i would not recommend putting anything topical on the area, just brush the hair around the hotspot to promote blood flow it may help making it grow faster.

I think your veterinarian, who was able to see and palpate the lesion, is right in determining that this may be scar tissue. As long as it is not painful, the skin does not turn red and it is not hot, there is nothing to worry about. Over time this will get less and less noticeable.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching.
