My dog was bitten, now hair is falling out. Why isn't it growing back?

Hair regrowth is different in pace with each different dog, it may be very fast or very slow, it is totally random and unpredictable. i would not recommend putting anything topical on the area, just brush the hair around the hotspot to promote blood flow it may help making it grow faster.

It could be that he suffered an injury in that spot, causing the hair loss. It can take weeks to months for fur to grow back in fully. It could also be due to a medical illness such as ringworm. It's always a good idea to have any hairless spots checked out by vet to determine if there is a medical problem causing it so it can be treated as needed.

There is no injection to make hair grow. Based on the way your dog's skin looks to me, I would be concerned about severe allergies or a hormone issue like Cushings or Hypothyroidism causing the hair loss. Fungal or yeast overgrowth is usually an issue secondary to something else like allergies or low thyroid gland production. Make sure your vet has tested BamBam for low thyroid at a minimum. If the hair loss is caused by hypothyroidism or Cushings disease the hair is not going to grow back on its own without treatment. If these endocrine issues are not going on in BamBam, and the skin infection has been adequately treated, then the hair should grow back with time. Some hair follicles take weeks/months to start producing hair again, so it takes time. Hope that helps!

What you are describing sounds like scar tissue, but I would have to see it to be sure. Scars will not grow hair, but tend to get smaller and less visible with time. Puppies will heal better than adult dogs, so the scar should be much less obvious within a couple of months. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to encourage hair growth in this area if it is a scar. It's also possible that the lump is due to a deep infection. If the lump grows, appears red, or starts to ooze fluid, then it's best to take her to the vet for an exam. I hope that helps and all is well with your pup.

Scabbing/hair loss can be caused by a number of things including infections from bacteria/yeast/fungus on the skin, allergies, metabolic changes internally, wounds or scratches, parasites, and more. Making sure Rosie is on a good monthly flea and tick preventive may help if you see parasites. If the area is not improving or is expanding in size it is best to have your vet take a look. They may recommend taking a skin scraping of the area to have it tested for possible causes. Be sure to also let your vet know of any other changes such as changes in appetite or energy levels. As some infections can be contagious to other pets and people, washing your hands after handling the area is best to help minimize spread.

There is something called post-clipping alopecia that is most likely the problem. Happens quite frequently after shaving for a fentanyl patch. The reason the hair fails to regrow is unknown. Total hair regrowth may take 6 to 24 months, although most animals regrow hair within 12 months. Some things that may help the hair to grow back faster would be: * vigorous brushing of the area * massage * hydrotherapy with warm water * covering the bald area with a sweater to increase skin temperature All of those things increase blood flow to the skin and may stimulate hair regrowth in some cases. So, give it some more time and if after about 10-12 months the hair has not grown back then speak to your vet about testing for underlying diseases like a low thyroid, cushing's disease, etc. Hope this helps. Hi and thanks for posting! If the infection on his tail is healing or is close to fully healed, it may take 2-4 weeks for the hair to grow back in that area. Sometimes, however if the infection is severe enough and leaves scar tissue in the area, the hair may not grow back fully. I hope this helps and best of luck!
