My dog has a growing ear lump. Are home remedies safe or effective?

Poor Hershey. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done or given to prevent the growth of any mass. You can try giving Benadryl twice a day (see link below) and applying Neosporin ointment mixed with cortisone ointment to help try and soothe him and prevent him from rubbing it all the time. Poor guy. This lump appears to be a huge mass and possible polyp. You will need to get this tested by your vet and seriously consider surgical removal of the mass. If left there this mass has a good chance of causing chronic ear infection, pain, and also can continue to grow. It is best to get this removed, so please consult with your veterinarian to devise a good plan for Little Bit in the near future. I hope that LIttle bit's ear mass gets resolved soon. No, I don't recommend to use this wash. Ear mites will not be killed by a vinegar wash. I recommend instead to have the ears examined and tested. Then you will know what type of infection is present and your pet will get the appropriate and the best care. Hello. Unfortunately, this type of growth can only be surgically removed by your veterinarian. Until you can plan to have the surgery, try to keep it clean by using warm soapyvwater and dabbing it dry. It would be best to have this looked at as soon as you can and discuss the necessary surgery with your veterinarian.

It is difficult to say for sure what the mass is exactly without further testing. If you want a definitive answer, I would recommend having a veterinarian doing some more testing on the mass by inserting a small needle into the mass and looking at the cells under the microscope. As for the itching, I would recommend the below following products. It is difficult to tell from the picture, but it looks like what you are seeing is a mass. We will commonly see benign masses in young dogs called a histiocytoma which can be itchy. Unfortunately, there isn't any way to determine what a mass it just by looking at it. Your vet can do a simple test called a fine needle aspirate to remove some cells with a needle and look at them under a microscope to determine what the mass is. If it is a histiocytoma, it will go away on its own, but Damon may need some medication to keep it from being itchy. That does look to be a mass. A mass is a collection of cells and can be benign (inflammation, cyst, some tumors) or a malignant tumor. Given the age of your dog this may be a histiocytoma, but as many skin tumors can look alike the best plan to confirm this is for your vet to perform a needle aspirate for cytology.
