This could be a fungal infection or an antibiotic resistant bacterial infection. If bacterial and fungal cultures have not yet been performed, I would recommend that you request them. Yes I would schedule a recheck if the discharge is still brown or yellow and hasn't started to resolve after a few days of antibiotics and other medications as it is possible there is something stuck in the nose causing irritation, or the infection requires more targeted medications. I would also make sure to keep Fray eating and drinking. You can also clear away any nasal discharge that is crusting around the nose to help keep it easier for her to breathe.

She should be showing signs of improvement by this time if the drugs being used the correct medications for the condition being treated. But obviously something is wrong. First, you may have been giving an antibiotic that was resistant against the infectious agent or whatever is causing the disease. Second, if it is indeed a virus causing the symptoms, then an antibiotic will not be effective. Lastly, maybe the dosage needs to be increased in milligrams as well as frequency. I strongly urge you to contact your veterinarian the soonest possible to have another physical examination performed. You may even need to do some chest x-rays or a cold sure of the respiratory mucus. Please do this before the symptoms worsen and your dog gets sicker. I hope I have helped you today. Bella is super cute!!! I would recommend to call her doctor and ask for recommendations. Likely the doctor will try a different antibiotic OR may recommend to just monitor her. Now that Bella is getting regular meals and has been dewormed, its possible that her immune system is still just catching up (I bet it was pretty weak) so the doctor may opt to monitor her and see if she kills the infection on her own. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If a runny nose is returning after a course of antibiotics has stopped there is concern for a foreign object stuck in the nose. Another course of antibiotics won't help. The best thing to do would be to scope or flush the nose to see if anything comes out, or to get a sample. Fungal disease is common in the US as well and is a consideration of cause. I would recommend a revisit with your vet. You can discuss allergies at that time as well, as a runny nose can be caused by allergies. Best of luck with Olive!

It’s possible that he’s got rhinitis, which can be caused by an allergic type reaction, an infection, or even an auto-immune type condition where the nasal passages become inflamed for no reason. A foreign body (such as a grass seed) would also be possible, as would a nasal tumor. A rhinoscopy (scope of the nose) and biopsy may be needed for a diagnosis and to determine the best treatments. If the nasal discharge continues, especially only on one side, I would be concerned about a possible foreign body in his sinus cavity or even something like cancer. The next step if not already done would be lab test, potential he a CT scan of his skull or/and even a rhinoscopy where we put a camera up his nose to examine for anything. Your veterinarian can determine with you which of those steps would be best suited are even available in your area.
