Rescued dog still has yellow nasal discharge after antibiotics.

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 19 days old | 37 lbs

A dog came to my doorstep about a month ago. She said hi to my other dog and when I came close to her, she was full of fleas and she was very malnourished (I could see her ribs).I took her to the vet to get meds for worms and shampoo for her coat. I got all her vaccines as well. 1.5 weeks ago, she was coughing (she also snores at times) and have purulent drainage in her nose. So the vet gave me antibiotics, antihistamine for 1 week supply. Meds just finished, and she still has yellow drainage.

Bella is super cute!!! I would recommend to call her doctor and ask for recommendations. Likely the doctor will try a different antibiotic OR may recommend to just monitor her. Now that Bella is getting regular meals and has been dewormed, its possible that her immune system is still just catching up (I bet it was pretty weak) so the doctor may opt to monitor her and see if she kills the infection on her own. Continue to make sure she is eating well, drinking plenty of water and resting ro allow her immune system to continue to strengthen. Thank you for using Pet Coach!
