My dog is gassy and has soft stool but is fine. Should I worry?

This could be due to a number of things, most like;y him eating something that disagreed with him, something too rich that he isn't used to eating. If you changed his dog food recently or introduced wet food to his diet this could be what started it. Other possibilities include parasites, food allergies, or bacterial infection. Try feeding him a bland diet for a few days, plain cooked white rice mixed with an equal part of plain boiled chicken breast, unseasoned, or plain hamburger, cooked and the fat rinsed off. If the symptoms persist or get worse, including developing new symptoms like diarrhea, lethargy and loss of appetite, get him seen by your vet as soon as possible for an exam and fecal analysis.

It could be that Oz had severe gastric upset. When dogs have an upset stomach it can cause severe gas and even diarrhea. I would continue feeding the bland diet and start an over the counter probiotic. However if it gets worse or does not continue to improve I would recommend taking Oz to a vet for a good exam and medications to help resolve the upset stomach.. hope that helps

It could be there was something in the water that has upset Bentley’s stomach, leading to the softer stools and drinking more water. I’d keep an eye on him for now. If he develops diarrhea, starts vomiting, becomes lethargic, and/or stops eating, I would have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. To be honest, if a dog is eating and happy, he is almost certainly getting enough fluids. As for the soft stool, it doesn’t look abnormal enough for me to be terribly concerned. Call and let your surgeon know but in general, if Lou is eating and happy, a little soft stool is no big deal. It sounds like the diarrhea is resolving, so as long as that continues I wouldn't worry about seeing your vet. You can gradually transition back to his usual diet once the stool seems mostly formed. Urinating inside can occasionally be a sign of a urinary tract infection, urinary disease, or a disease that is causing dilute urine. If Louis seems to urinate more frequently or has another accident I'd recommend having your vet examine him and check a urine sample.

Hello, sorry to hear abut Lou. Indeed this may be a flare up of his colitis and a bland diet may help rest his GI tract enough so that he doesn't have a full episode of colitis. A fast should not be necessary if he is eating ok. Ultimately, it sounds like Lou may have intermittent GI sings long term and he may benefit from a diet trial, prophylactic medications and probiotics to improve her overall, longterm GI health. While the turkey may have something to with it, Freckles' diarrhea could also be caused by toxin ingestion, parasites, infectious diseases, blockage in the gastrointestinal tract caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. I recommend you take Freckles in to the vet, and take in a fecal sample from Freckles when you go. Your vet will likely want to test the sample to see what kind of parasites Freckles may be dealing with so that they can be treated for accordingly. If no parasites are noted, your vet can recommend further diagnostics and treatment to help manage Freckles' diarrhea.
