My dog has gas, loose yellow stool, and isn't pooping. Is it serious?

This is not normal and could indicate a food intolerance, or infection. You can try to see if a bland diet and probiotics help to reduce the gas and mucousy poo. You can buy bland diets at the pet store (best option), or make a bland diet for him at home (boiled chicken, duck, or turkey plus potato, rice, pumpkin, etc.). If the his stools and gas improve with this diet, then it would be best to switch him to another food with different ingredients. If this doesn't help after 1-2 weeks of starting the diet, then I would be more suspicious of an infection and recommend he goes to a vet for an evaluation. This could be due to a number of things, most like;y him eating something that disagreed with him, something too rich that he isn't used to eating. If you changed his dog food recently or introduced wet food to his diet this could be what started it. Other possibilities include parasites, food allergies, or bacterial infection. Try feeding him a bland diet for a few days, plain cooked white rice mixed with an equal part of plain boiled chicken breast, unseasoned, or plain hamburger, cooked and the fat rinsed off. Based on your description, Wade may have a condition called colitis. This is an inflammation in the large intestine most often caused by a change in diet, eating something they are not used to or a stressful event. It can be secondary to many other things. It often results in diarrhea/loose stools and straining to defecate. If he's acting normal otherwise, you can start by withholding food for 12-24 hours, then introducing a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and white rice. You can also add some canned pumpkin puree as the fiber can help to firm up the stools. As long as the stools normalize, you can then start mixing in his regular dog food. If the diarrhea continues despite these things, I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian for an exam. They will most likely recommend a fecal exam to look for parasites and sometimes when colitis doesn't resolve on it's own, they are treated with an antibiotic.

If he is a young dog it is possible that he has a mild food allergy or an easily upset stomach (sometimes this is irritable bowl syndrome). Typically strong smelling gas in from the diet. I think slowly switching Ziggys food to maybe a different protein source of purina would help calm down or stop the gas. However, if you want to try an over the counter probiotic every day in the food and see if helping the good bacteria grow improved the gas. I wouldn't be too concerned about gas alone, especially if you are not seeing true vomiting or diarrhea. While drinking the bath water is not ideal and I wouldn't encourage the behavior it is unlikely to cause much harm. If Lou does start vomiting or his soft stool progresses to diarrhea you should contact your vet to see what they would recommend.

It sounds as Buzz is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

This is not uncommon following new and rich foods and generally will settle down within 3-5days. A probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora alongside a bland diet may help rebalance the gut and monitor closely for any persistent vomiting which may indicate the need for a vet visit and additional treatment
