Why did my dog have frothy bloody foam from mouth/nose after passing?

Hello, I am so sorry to hear of Indie's passing. Clear fluid coming from the nose is a common post-mortem event that likely did not have anything to do with her passing. It is possible she had respiratory disease that could have caused excessive nasal drainage though. A veterinarian could perform an autopsy and try to confirm a cause of death. Dogs can experience heart attacks and strokes as sudden causes of death, even in young age. I know unexpected loss can be very traumatic, but please do not blame yourself. Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear this! I would be concerned that Maya either got into something toxic while she was out running around or she became overheated and died of heat stroke. There is also a chance she could have had an underlying heart condition that was never diagnosed. Finally there could have been some sort of trauma she encounter like being hit by a car. The watery blood that came out of her nose has most likely come from her lungs. This can be abnormal finding after an animal passes away under more traumatic circumstances. If this recently happened you could take Mays's remains in to your vet and request a necropsy be performed. This may help determine her cause of death. Much sympathy to you.

Hi there, sorry about the loss of your friend. Fluid drainage post mitten can be indicative of heart failure or pulmonary (lung) fluids buildup. It is also possible she had a tumor of some sort causing the buildup. I hope this helps you find some peace. My best to you.

I'm so sorry to hear this happened. I would not say that blood is normal unless there was concurrent trauma. With drowning usually the fluid that comes from the nose and mouth is frothy, clear/white/grey and not bloody. If you want to get a better idea of what happened to him you could have your vet do an autopsy on him.

First off, I'm so very sorry you lost Rudis suddenly. Please accept my condolences for your loss. There could be a number of things causing his sudden death such as exposure to toxins, cancer, liver failure, heart disease, or even the bone if it caused an obstruction. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. You can ask your parents to take him into the vet for a necropsy (an autopsy for animals). This may give you some answers. Poor Yogi! It’s hard to know if this is related to the tumor or a problem by itself. Since you saw the blood in the phlegm, I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian. Even if this is related to the tumor there are medications that can control inflammation and keep him more comfortable. One thing you can do at home that may help us start him on an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for dogs. This will act as a natural anti-inflammatory and improve the lining of the respiratory tract. I am sorry that she is having this problem and I am sure you are worried. Nasal discharge with blood can be a sign of infection, cancer, or possibly a bleeding disorder. If the antibiotics do no resolve the problem then your vet will need to do some diagnostic tests to help determine the cause. Your vet can run blood-work, take nasal x-rays, and/or rhinoscopy to see if a diagnosis can be found. I wish I could tell you the cause but am not able to without more information from tests. The bump on the roof of her mouth may not be related but you should monitor it and have your vet take a look at it. Try not to worry as it could definitely just be an infection.
