Why did my dog suddenly die foaming at mouth after chewing a bone?

First off, I'm very sorry Daisy died suddenly! Certainly a hemangiosarcoma can rupture suddenly, leading to death quickly. Bones are never good to give to dogs, especially cooked bones, but I don't believe that a splintered pork bone would cause a dog to die immediately. I suppose there is a chance if it was a big bone and a large piece punctured the GI tract, but you'd more likely see signs first like anorexia, vomiting, lethargy, blood in the feces, and the dog acting very ill. Unfortunately I can't say for certain without seeing her, but you can take her body into a vet for a necropsy (an autopsy for dogs). This may provide some answers as to why she has passed away suddenly. Again, I'm sorry for your loss!

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear this! I would be concerned that Maya either got into something toxic while she was out running around or she became overheated and died of heat stroke. There is also a chance she could have had an underlying heart condition that was never diagnosed. Finally there could have been some sort of trauma she encounter like being hit by a car. The watery blood that came out of her nose has most likely come from her lungs. This can be abnormal finding after an animal passes away under more traumatic circumstances. If this recently happened you could take Mays's remains in to your vet and request a necropsy be performed. This may help determine her cause of death. Much sympathy to you.

I'm so sorry for your loss! It it's so hard when you lose a pet that young. It's hard to know for sure what happened with Duck but with very low white cell counts I would be concerned about infection in his bone marrow such as a tickborne disease or even potentially cancer. The only way to truly know what caused his passing would be a post more exam similar to an autopsy of people. However from my experience many times we still don't get an exact answer. Please know from what I can tell this is not anything you did or did not do or any indication of anything lacking on your part.

It is of course difficult to know precisely what happened to Daisy without examining her, however, I would be concerned about two possible conditions. Bloat which is when the stomach becomes englarged and may rotate. This causes the blood vessels to constrict and affects blood flow to and from the heart. It is common in large barrel chested dogs. Another possibility is A foreign body obstruction, which occurs when something becomes lodged and Blocks the gastrointestinal tract, the bloackage can be complete and cause a rupture. Again it is difficult for me to know what could have caused Daisy to pass. If you need to know definitively, a local veterinarian may be able to perform an autopsy. Sending my deepest sympathies to you.

I am so very sorry that your dog passed away suddenly! Without seeing him in person, I can't say exactly what caused him to pass away unfortunately. The pale gums are a concerning sign, as they are caused by anemia and internal bleeding. It could be that he got into something toxic causing the pale gums, and then leading him to pass away. He also could have had a tumor that ruptured, or cancer that had spread. If you'd like answers, I'd recommend taking him into the vet for a necropsy (an autopsy for dogs). Doing that will hopefully give you some more definitive answers. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog! Unfortunately, the only way to know why she died would be to have an autopsy performed (called a necropsy in animals), either by your veterinarian or a veterinary pathologist if you have one nearby. Since it sounds like it happened quite suddenly and she was bleeding from her eyes, she may have had a bleeding disorder (this can be caused by ingesting rat poison, or by some hereditary or immune-mediated diseases), or she could have suffered a head trauma of some kind. But I'm afraid there's no way to know for sure without a necrospy. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Hello, I am so sorry to hear of Indie's passing. Clear fluid coming from the nose is a common post-mortem event that likely did not have anything to do with her passing. It is possible she had respiratory disease that could have caused excessive nasal drainage though. A veterinarian could perform an autopsy and try to confirm a cause of death. Dogs can experience heart attacks and strokes as sudden causes of death, even in young age. I know unexpected loss can be very traumatic, but please do not blame yourself.
