My dog has accidents, pees a lot, but drinks very little water. Why?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 5 years and 4 months old | 11 lbs

How can a dog drink less water and still pee the same amount or more? I have looked this up online and only see things about excess thirst. I been having early morning potty accidents daily now which is not usual for my dog so been measuring water yesterday she only drank 1/4 cup all day today she has drank 1 1/4 cup but even when she only had the 1/4 cup she still had the same accidents how can she have all that pee and drink very little water ? Thx for your time and insight

It's possible that while Kiwi is going more frequently, the volume has not increased. In either case, this is a concerning symptom that should be checked out by your vet. Possible issues such as metabolic illnesses, urinary tract infections, etc can all cause an increase in urination and accidents so having a thorough exam done is best.
