My young dog has bumps on her foot. What are they and should I worry?

Poor Bruno! Bumps under the skin can be caused by a variety of conditions, including abscesses, inflammation from soft tissue injuries, fractures, or bone tumors (unlikely given his young age), among others. It would be best to take Bruno to his vet for an exam and possible diagnostic testing. The vet will be able to feel the lump, assess his gait, and may need to take x-rays or perform cytology under the microscope with fluid/tissue from the lump. That said, if Bruno is walking completely normally, not licking the affected area, and is otherwise eating, drinking, and acting like himself, this type of lesion does not warrant a trip to an emergency vet and can wait a day or two, if needed. Mast cell tumors are very uncommon in young dogs, so if the masses look like viral papillomas, those would be more common in a 9 month old puppy. Viral papillomas have a pretty characteristic appearance, but it is always a good idea to have your vet examine Daphne and make the diagnosis. If it doesn't seem to bother Peanut, this could be a skin lesion called a histiocytoma (a benign, non-cancerous skin mass). Another possibilty if a reactive insect bite (if it becomes bothersome or gets worse). It is best to have your vet look at it and get samples from it to properly identify this skin lesion. If it is considered to be a histiocytoma (which is very likely), then these usually resolve on their own within 2-4 weeks (self limiting). Hi there. This looks like a histiocytoma. If it is, it should regress (go away on it's own) within a month or two. I would not be overly worried about this right now. This appears like a wart, or possibility a sebaceous adenoma. I would have to examine it closer to be sure though. These are benign masses that usually go away on their own. It's best to have your vet examine it to be sure. My suggestion would be to take Hazel to your vet for an exam so you can get a more definitive diagnosis. These look like juvenile warts (oral papilloma). Such warts are caused by a virus, they are self-limiting and and will go away by themselves eventually within a few months. They will need veterinary attention if they increase significantly in size or amount or start bleeding, get infected, or cause other problems.
