My 9-month-old puppy has bumps that look like warts. Are they serious?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. Even young dogs can develop growths. This can be a viral wart or another tumor type like a mast cell tumor, histiocytoma, among many others. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. They look like papiloma warts. They should go away on their own. They are due to a virus and will regress once the puppy's immune system kicks in. If they are not bothering him then I suggest you leave them alone and stop treating them. You may be making them worse. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

These look like juvenile warts (oral papilloma). Such warts are caused by a virus, they are self-limiting and and will go away by themselves eventually within a few months. They will need veterinary attention if they increase significantly in size or amount or start bleeding, get infected, or cause other problems.

These could be canine oral papillomas, which are small benign tumors of the mouth causing by the papilloma virus. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, so I would have them checked out by a vet. If they are canine oral papillomas, treatment is usually not needed unless they become infected or she develops a lot of growths. I hope this helps!

I would be concerned that these bumps might be warts, papillomas or even a histiocytoma. A histiocytoma is a non cancerous mass that grows in young dogs. Typicaly it will go away on its own in a few months. However warts and papillomas will not. I would recommend taking Kali to a vet to determine what is the cause and discuss surgical removal if they progress or cause discomfort to Kali

It is hard to tell but this appears to be a possible growth. Growths in puppies ar usually either papillomas or histiocytomas, both benign masses. I would suggest monitoring this mass for the next week or so. If it starts to get bigger, then its best to have your vet examine it and perhaps test it to ensure it is only a benign mass and nothing to be concerned about. Sometimes an anti-inflammatory medication is needed to help with the irritation that these cause. Also if Loki begins to scratch at it, its best to place an e-collar to prevent her from irritating it further. I hope everything works out well for your pet Loki. Best wishes and take care.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the pictures you provided and knowing that Klaus is young, what you are seeing appears to be what we call a papilloma. These benign masses are caused by contact with the papilloma virus, usually picked up from another infected dog. The good news is that these masses typically resolve on their own and require no specific treatment. Sometimes these do not go away and need to be removed or are getting too large and become an eye sore or catch on objects and bleed. In these cases, sometimes we will prescribe an antibiotic such as Azithromycin which has been shown to reduce the size and even resolve some papillomas. Most of the time, however, these masses will turn gray or purple in color, shrink and then fall off. If you are concerned about the mass then I would get this examined by your vet. I hope this helps!
