What dog food is recommended for dogs with seizures or epilepsy?

It is possible it may be food related - certain liver issues such as shunts can cause build up of chemicals in the blood causing seizures after food. This would need specific liver blood tests and possibly ultrasound to identify and if present can be managed with diet and medication for the most part although some may require surgery. Certain chemicals and molds in food can also trigger seizures

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Something that can be improved with the diet is arthritis. The best diet for that purpose in my opinion is the Hills Science Diet j/d. Two seizures in a 24 hour period are considered "cluster seizures," which generally require anti-epileptic (anti-seizure) medications. The post-ictal (after seizure) period can last for many hours, or even a day, and can cause many subtle behavioral changes and could even affect Blue's appetite. At this point, Blue should be examined by her vet. The vet will perform a neurologic exam and full physical exam, and may recommend blood work. Based on these results, medications may be prescribed. Until you go to the vet, try tempting Blue with canned dog food, meat-based baby food, or boiled white meat chicken and rice. I hope that she's feeling better soon!

You can certainly try it but they don't always help. You may also want to talk to your vet about prescribing him Purina Neurocare. I have seen dogs have a decrease in the frequency of seizures while on this food. If he is having a lot of seizures, I would also talk to your vet about an anti-seizure medicine to help prevent them. Start a seizure log if you haven't already to keep up with the date, time and length (actual convulsing part) of the seizures. This will help you to look for trends and if they are becoming longer or more frequent. If you give him any type of flea and heartworm prevention, I would just avoid trifexis and comfortis as both of these have a tendency to lower the seizure threshold. I hope this helps!
