What food helps digestion for my 2-month GSD puppy pooping too much?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Every dog is different. What one puppy tolerates another may not. If Lobo is having diarrhea be sure to have your Vet check for worms, as that is a common cause of diarrhea in puppies. I would try a different brand of puppy food. I like Hill's Science Diet, Purina and Royal Canin. It may take some trial and error to find on that he tolerates. If his abnormal stool persists you should have your Vet examine him. Chronic diarrhea can be a frustrating issue! In a young German Shepherd, my main concerns for Charlie are that he may have intestinal parasites, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, or inflammatory bowel disease. If he has not recently had a stool sample checked for parasites, this is a good starting point. If no parasites are seen, consider discussing blood work (CBC, chemistry, B12, TLI, folate) and an abdominal ultrasound to try to get to the bottom of this situation. Probiotics (Fortiflora and Proviable are two brands) may be beneficial. I hope that all goes well!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Personally the color doesn't bother me but the consistency does. That is diarrhea. It is too soft and not formed. I would go back to the Royal Canin food as it sounds like he digests that one better. Be sure though that he has had his stool tested for intestinal parasites and is up to date on his DHPP vaccines. I would recommend adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online or at your local pet store quite easily. This may be a bacteria related problem. If she continues to refuse to eat, I would recommend having her blood tested to ensure there are no systemic changes that may indicate disease or infection. This is not normal. I would have your vet recheck his stool to ensure all the coccidia is gone and no other parasites are present. I would also consider having him checked for giardia. Also, make sure he is on a high quality puppy food like science diet or royal canin. Some of these more expensive, “high protein, grain trees” food can be too rich for them. At his age he really only needs dry kibble. Canned food and milk can also cause an upset stomach and be too rich for him. Finally make sure he isn’t getting into anything like eating dirt, bugs, etc as these things can also cause diarrhea. He may need a probiotic to help balance his normal bacteria. I would talk to your vet about a good suggestion for his age and weight and current health. I hope this helps!

My best recommendation is to have Rocky on a large breed puppy formula of high quality dog food. My preferred brands include Hill's, Royal Canin and Purina. Because all puppy foods differ in their caloric content per cup, feed the recommended amount based on his weight that is listed on the back of the food bag. I would also recommend weighing Rocky every 10-14 days because he will be gaining weight quickly and you will need to adjust the amount of food you are feeding him based on his weight. Eating his poop is a normal puppy behavior and probably not because of hunger or decreased nutrition. It is however this is a habit that needs to be broken so clean up his feces as often as possible and correct the behavior whenever you see it. I hope this helps.
