My puppy stopped eating after food change. What new food should I try?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Kira! She is very cute! Vomiting can be caused by a sudden diet change. I would with hold food for 12 hours then start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice for 2 days. If he eats it well and doesn't vomit then put him back on the original food. If you really want him on this new food mix it with the old food and slowly transition him to the new diet. If he won't eat and continues to vomit he should see a Vet. I would recommend switching to a different food altogether like Science Diet or switch to a different puppy formula of Royal Canin that has less fiber. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes dogs will just get bored of the same diet and just need to be switched to a completely new diet. I would recommend you consider a different diet though it could be from the same brand. Remember to introduce her to the new diet slowly as follows: feed 25% of the new and 75% of the old diet on day 1. Then feed 50% of each the second day and 75% of the new and 25% of the old on day 3. On day 4, you should be able to feed her the new diet entirely. Good luck and have a great day!

This is a great question, especially because there are so many food options out there for puppies! Several brands of food including Hill's Science Diet, Royal Canin, and Purina One are often preferred. These companies do a lot of research and quality control to ensure their foods meet strict nutritional standards so I would recommend one of these brands for Sixx. I would recommend adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online or at your local pet store quite easily. This may be a bacteria related problem. I personally prefer the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends for puppies as they are generally inexpensive, are of great quality and dogs seems to love it. For the amount to feed her, I advice you follow the guidelines that you will find in the back of the bag. Keep in mind that you should get the puppy blend. Also, keep in mind that as she grows, you will notice in the back of the bag that it will advice you feed her more. When she becomes a year old, she should be switched to an adult diet. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Every dog is different. What one puppy tolerates another may not. If Lobo is having diarrhea be sure to have your Vet check for worms, as that is a common cause of diarrhea in puppies. I would try a different brand of puppy food. I like Hill's Science Diet, Purina and Royal Canin. It may take some trial and error to find on that he tolerates. If his abnormal stool persists you should have your Vet examine him.
