Are common dog food ingredients like byproducts, BHA, and fats safe?

There are worse brands and there are better brands. If your dog does well on it, is healthy and it is easy for you to get then you can continue to feed it. If your budget and shopping options allow, consider a better quality diet.

These brands you mentioned are considered at least in my mind to be mid range foods, it's no McDonald's but it's not super healthy either. same foes for all the ingredients you mentioned, these are indeed fillers, some more problematic than others (such as meat byproducts for example). Dogs are considered omnivores but are truly carnivores, meaning they need mainly meat/fish in their diet, but economically and realistically it's not doable, there are too many dogs/cats and not enough meat on earth to keep with the demand.

Hello there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Pedigree is not the most premium food but it is not the worst. I have seen many dogs thrive on it. I really don't think you need to add in the other items but as long as she is not overweight I do not see the harm in it since it is only 5% of the meal. You didn't mention if you are giving her the chicken bone - if you are, I don't recommend you do this. Just give the meat only. It sounds like you are doing just fine. Just monitor her weight. Shimar is so cute!! I think as long as your are feeding a high quality commercial puppy food then she is getting all the nutrients she needs. My favorites are science diet, royal canin, Iams, and Purina. All of these have been around for a long time and have several studies to back up their product. I hope this helps!

Pedigree is better than Alpo in my opinion, and if that is the best option you have to feed Pocholo, there's nothing wrong with feeding him that. It's not harmful to feed him this, but I would make sure you are feeding him a puppy formulated food. Puppies need higher amounts of calories, protein, and calcium than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will give him that.

Hello, by products are commonly used in dog food and have been used for many years. They are generally safe for our pets to consume unless they have a specific allergy to chicken or beef. If so, there are other protein sources for dog food including lamb, duck, venison, and some states even kangaroo. If Prince seems to be doing well on this kind of food, then I would not worry about changing his diet to another food. However, you may find other foods that do not use by products and instead use chicken breast or leg. Likely wise with the beef products. However, do expect these kinds of food to be more expensive.
