My puppy has a lump on his muzzle. Is it urgent or can it wait?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 15 days old | 2.5 lbs

Hi, I found this lump on my puppy’s muzzle. We have another dog and I’ve never seen anything like this before. Both dogs are booked in for a check up and immunisations a week tomorrow so I was just wondering if it can wait until then or if it needs to be seen sooner. Thank you

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like it could be a small abscess like lesion or a focal infection. Either way, this is likely to resolve with local treatment if the infection is confirmed. I think it would be ok to wait until next week as long as it starts resolving and healing on its own as sometimes these do resolve again if that is what it is. If this continues to worsen or progresses or it is not healing, it would be indicated to have him seen sooner. Good luck and best wishes!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be a benign or malignant growth. This could even be an infection. This cannot be completely assessed just by looking at pictures and usually requires sampling such as fine needle aspiration to determine its origin. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. If he is otherwise doing well, it should be fine to wait until Monday. Good luck and have a good day!

This could be a cyst from an impacted hair follicle from when she was rubbing her nose in daycare. As long as it isn't bothering Chinook, it's ok to wait until Monday to get this area tested through your vet. Best case scenario is that this is a benign tumor that isn't of concern for your pet. My dog has a growing lump. What could it be and should I worry?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Is that supposed to be the same growth in both photos? The growth if the first photo looks suspicious for a malignant tumor. The tissue around the mass is swollen and the mass itself is raised and ulcerated; both can be signs of a malignancy. I cannot tell you for sure though just by looking at a photo. The second photo looks like a benign wart. In general, any new lumps/bumps should be examined by your vet. The first photo looks worrisome and I think you should have it checked in the next few days.

My dog's nose has a pus-filled pimple. Should I touch it or see a vet?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This could even be the site of an infection. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. My dog has a red, pus-filled bump near his nostril. What's wrong?

I recommend that you have Arlo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If an abscess was noted, further local therapy with drainage and antibiotics would be recommended. My dog has a red lump on his nose. Is it a pimple or something worse?

This could be from an insect bite or a wound. I would clean it with a damp cloth and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. Give it a few days to see if it's drying up and healing. If it's getting bigger then I would take Pierce in for a veterinary exam. It could be a mass but it's more likely a small area of infected skin and it will heal in a week or so. My puppy has a growing watery lump under its chin. Should I see a vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tootsie! I would worry it is an abscess. The skin looks red and bruised and the "water" you feel may be puss. Since Tootsie is so young that makes him more fragile than older puppies, meaning he may deteriorate quickly. I suggest you take him to the Vet for an exam and if they think it is an abscess then antibiotics can be provided. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!
