My dog has a growth on her lip. Is it an emergency or can it wait?

Pet's info: Dog | Bluetick Coonhound | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

Hello, I noticed the pictured growth coming off my dog's lip tonight. I don't know if it's new as it is usually covered by her top lip. Is it something I should take her in for ASAP? Thanks, Shay

Hi Shay! Any growth is concerning, but it's not a medical emergency. You don't have to rush her into the vet tonight. I would make an appointment during normal business hours in the next couple of days to have it checked out, however. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Unfortunately there is no proven at home therapy for masses or tumor especially when it is not known what it is. You can consider contacting the humane society as often times they offer less costly veterinary care.

This could be a benign or malignant growth. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. You can take him to your vet tomorrow, it's not an emergency. this lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

It sounds like your pet has a skin mass, which typically is not an emergency type of situation, especially if it isn’t bleeding or causing immense pain or discomfort for your pet. Having the mass evaluated on Monday is perfectly logical. The vet will gather samples of the mass and send it off for anlalgsis through the lab to see if this is a mass that will require surgical removal or not. I hope things work out well for your pet. It does not appear to be actively bleeding or infected so as long as it is not causing her pain or discomfort (reduced appetite, crying if handled, avoiding being petted) then I would happy it would be stable to wait overnight

Found a growth on my dog's lip after grooming. Is it serious?

It's difficult to see the growth clearly in the picture, it's not urgent but it will need to be checked physically by your vet, he will likely want to take a small needle sample to send to the lab for analysis this way he will be able to tell you what it is and what treatment is needed.

Hi Sinead! The answer to your question depends on a few things. If the lump has come up suddenly, it has been getting bigger by the day, it bothers her, and/or she has had changes in behavior such as eating less, vomiting, and lethargy, then yes I would take her into an ER vet. If this lump on Roxt isn't bothering her, it doesn't get any bigger, and she's acting normally, then it's fine to wait until next week. Good luck, I hope this helps!

My dog has a gray, cauliflower lump on her chest. Is it an emergency?

This is something that can be looked at during g normal business hours and does not appear to be an emergency. That spot may be a type of growth/ cyst or it may be an area of skin infection. Have your vet take a look.
