Is it safe to feed my dog an egg every day, including the shell?

Hello. It is very safe to give a boiled egg daily to Bruno. Eggs are just as good for dogs as they are for people. I doubt that 1 egg will increase his weight significantly & dietary cholesterol is not a significant source of this compound. If he tolerated it well, this may be ok, However, this should only be used to supplement his regular diet more as a snack to be given every once in a while as opposed to using it mainly as a complete diet. You can give a BOILED egg as a treat once in a while. However, if you feed a complete puppy food for large sized dogs, you do not need to feed any eggs. Do not feed raw eggs as this will cause health problems (they contain avidine which causes biotin deficiency which in turn causes problems with your dog's nails and fur.

Eggs are fine as an occasional treat, but it's not something that Andy should get daily. The only food that a dog needs is a high quality dog food, which will provide him all the nutrients he needs to be healthy. Adding additional food on top of that will lead to extra calories and weight gain. Weight gain leads to obesity, which in turn leads to its own health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and joint problems. It would be fine to give him a boiled egg (no shell) once or twice a week as a treat. You can also give him a scrambled egg, but make sure it's egg only and no seasonings etc. Good luck, I hope this helps!

The yolk is fatty however, so you need to watch how many calories of dog food you are feeding so Peanut doesn’t become overweight. Also, if you are feeding a high quality dog food (like Hills, Purina One, Royal Canin, or Iams) you shouldn’t need to add eggs. Good luck and kisses to Peanut!

Eggs can be a great supplement to a dogs diet but the whites should always be cooked as there is a substance in them which can inctivate biotin, an important b vitamin. Egg shells can be a good source of minerals such as calcium but I would recommend no more than one shell daily and to ensure it is well broken up so the sharp edges do not cause injury
