My puppy's on a raw diet. Can she safely eat raw eggs weekly?

Eggs are a highly nutritious snack but should not be fed raw regularly as there is avidin in them which binds with biotin, an important vitamin. Whitening the egg with boiling water or cooking is preferred

If he tolerated it well, this may be ok, However, this should only be used to supplement his regular diet more as a snack to be given every once in a while as opposed to using it mainly as a complete diet. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Norik. Some puppies and dogs are extremely sensitive to any changes in their diet. Some will tolerate and others will react like this. The AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) does NOT support the use of raw foods for pets. If you want to feed him some eggs or egg yolks, I would lightly cook them and see if he can keep them down. Start with small amounts added to his regular food. Eggs and yolks are great protein and fat sources. Good luck

However, it is well known the possible risks of eating raw meat just like it is possible health risk to a human for the same exact reasons like the development of an infection from ingesting raw protein. Also, it does not offer any benefit over cooked food. I personally do not recommend raw diets. Good luck!

No on the raw eggs. Just like people are not supposed to eat raw eggs. The chances of contracting Salmonella bacteria is very high and that can kill your dog. Not worth it. You can give him cooked eggs if you'd like (no butter, oil or spices). There is really no benefit; it would just be for a treat. All high quality, premium dog foods are balanced (look for the AAFCO statement on the bag) and you really don't need to give extra supplements unless your vet says your dog needs it for some underlying condition. Just feed Diesel a high quality diet like Royal Canin and he will have everything he needs.
