My dog's eyelids are pink and itchy. Should I take her to the vet?

Ouch! This looks pretty irritated now. Ada could be having an allergic reaction to something, have chronic allergies that are starting for the season, or even have an issue with her immune system. I would recommend putting and e-collar (cone) on her tonight so that she can't rub her face and damage her eye and schedule an appointment for tomorrow with her regular vet. If she can't get comfortable this evening, or you don't have an e-collar, err on the side of caution and take her to an emergency clinic. Ouch, poor Lexie! These scabbed lesions around her eyelids could be due to allergies, skin infections, or infected Meibomian glands (glands that produce part of the tear film in the eyelids). Isabella needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. Signs like this are concerning for a scratch on the eye or something trapped in the eye. These conditions are not only very painful but they can also get worse quickly. She also needs to wear an elizabethan collar at all times to stop any rubbing. Have her examined quickly so she is out of pain and gets the correct treatment.

It is very important that Cutie be seen by a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment of her eyes. Over-the-counter medications are not recommended for use in treatment of eye disease without a vet’s recommendation, as some types of eye ointments and drops contain steroids that can severely damage the eye if it has a scratch/corneal ulcer. Her vet will need to evaluate her eye, and may recommend testing such as a Fluorescein stain to look for scratched/ulcers, tonometry to test the eye pressures and look for glaucoma, or a Schirmer tear test to evaluate tear production. In some cases a combination of causes can lead to an uncomfortable eye, and as you mentioned some eye conditions can be very painful. Sometimes if eyelashes/ hair are growing in a way that causes them to touch the eye it can lead to pain as well. Cutie looks to have quite large, bulging eyes, which predisposes her to conditions such as dry eye, and if you suspect she is in pain you are likely correct. Please book an appointment to have her seen by a vet, and good luck!

Poor Scooby! He could have severe allergies, an eye infection, or may have something in his eyes. He could damage his eyes badly by scratching them, and he needs to see a vet as soon as possible for this issue. Leaving this untreated can lead to vision loss if he scratches his eye badly enough.
