My dog has eyebags. Are there home remedies or diet changes for it?

It causes the lower eye lids to droop down, exposing the conjunctiva (or the pink part inside the eye) and causing chronic exposure to the outside and thus inflammation and irritation. While there is a genetic predisposition, this only means that the condition can develop at some point. Congenital conditions are also genetically linked, but occur at birth or shortly after. Ectropion in dogs, just like in people, gets worse with age as the muscles in the face get weaker and the eye lids droop down. From Lexi's photo, I can see that she does have droopy eye lids, but I cannot see the lower ones. This condition can be corrected with surgery, similar to an eye lift in people. To keep Lexi more comfortable, you can apply artificial tears or lubricating drops to keep her eyes moist. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

The initial bump/growth may be a meibomian gland adenoma, or a chalazion, which are benign growths that often need to be removed surgically due to the irritation it causes to the eye. I suspect the recent blinking and tearing are due to an eye infection, possibly caused by irritation from the bump. This definitely warrants a visit to the vet as soon as possible, as I worry about any damage to the cornea which can worsen the problem quickly, especially if he is scratching at it. In the meantime, you can try applying a warm wet compress to the eye for 5-10 minutes at a time. I would also put an e-collar (cone) on his head to prevent scratching of the eye. This is a condition known as ectropion, which is not uncommon with beagles and other hounds. This is usually OK as long as there are no problems. Hello. It appears that the upper eyelid is inflamed. This is a condition called blepharitis. It could be an allergic reaction to something in the park. You can apply warm compresses to the area alternating with cool compresses to help relieve the swelling. (3-4 times a day). If it has not improved in the next 24-48 hours, I would have your vet examine her and determine if further treatment is needed.

It appears he may have an entropion. This is where the eyelids roll inward so the hair and lashes can scratch the eye and cause irritation. This maybe secondary to confirmation or secondary from swelling. Your vet can check for an ulcer and hopefully prescribe anti inflammatory meds if there is not one. From there, they will check for dry eye and discuss surgery to fix the entropion to provide permanent relief

It sounds from your description that Frankie Bean is having increased tear production and staining on the hair near the inside of her eyes. Common causes for this include allergies (which can be seasonal), conjunctivitis, blocked tear duct, corneal ulcer or abrasion, chronic dry eye, etc. You can use a saline eye wash to gently flush her eyes to get out any debris, and an eye lubricant like Dechra Paralube is safe for eyes. As for the crusties on her hair, use a warm wet washcloth 1-2 times per day to gently clean this away. Occasionally dogs with excess tearing can develop secondary bacterial or yeast infections that may need prescription medications to clear up. You may discuss use of anti-histamines or changes in food to help with potential seasonal allergies. Your vet may also recommend bloodwork to find a cause for her weight loss and lethargy. Arthritis is a common cause for soreness in the morning or after prolonged periods of rest.
