My dog's eye has tears, mucus, and is closing after a poke. Is it bad?

I am so sorry to hear that Kaimana is experiencing these problems with her eye. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Kaimana to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is injured, inflamed or infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Her to scratch or rub her eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. An rlceration is a tear in the top layer of the eye and is a serious condition. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly I would have her examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue immediately. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Your vet will use a special tear stain drop to visualise the eye and the top layer to make are there are no ulcerations, and check for other conditions before prescribing medications. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. This can lead to permanent damage and unnecessary pain or discomfort. Awww. Poor baby. She looks like they are painful. Their eyes stick out more than a lot of other breeds so they are very susceptible to eye injuries, scratches or even dryness. You could try artificial tears or some other straight saline eye drop. No medications unless prescribed by the veterinarian. Eye problems should be addressed quickly so if she doesn’t improve with just some saline flush or tears have her looked at. They will do a thorough eye exam and stain the eyes to look for any scratches

Being poked in the eye can cause eye irritation, yes. If the meds are not helping or the eye is getting worse, it would be best to bring Danny into your vet to have the eye examined for more serious infection or scratches to the cornea caused by the poke.

The film you are referring to may be Andy's third eyelid. In which case it is possible that he scratched or injured his eye- especially if he was normal this morning. Since these can be very painful and I would recommend taking him in and having his eye examined and possibly 'stained'- a test to rule out scratches. I hope this helps!

Oso likely has an eye infection and I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian. He will likely get antibiotic eye drops and the doctor may check for a scratch on the cornea as well. Make sure Oso is not rubbing at the eye as this can make it worse. An Elizabethan collar can help to keep the eye safe. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
