My dog's eye got poked. Is it conjunctivitis? How long to heal?

It certainly looks as though Chavo has somehow irritated his eye and likely has continued to rub it causing more irritation. My biggest concern would be that he has scratched his cornea (the outermost surface if his eye) which can be a very painful condition and can lead to infection. There is also a chance that the irritation and discharge is just from allergies, this would be the best case scenario. Since you are unable to bring Chavo in to see a vet you could try calling your vet and see if they can recommend an over the counter allergy medication that may help. Good luck!

This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. She will need eye drops and antinflammatories to settle this down so go to your vet as soon as you can. In the mean time pressing a cooled tea bag on the outside of the eye can provide some relief.

Pawing at the eye is a sign of pain or at least irritation. Not having examined the eye myself, it is not possible to tell you how long this will take to resolve and I suggest you call your veterinarian tomorrow and ask him. You may also want to ask him about pain medicine.

Poor girl. It would help if you posted a picture here, but it does sound like Ayumi has possible conjunctivitis. If the discharge is yellow or green, then there is an infection that should be checked by your vet. The vet needs to do an eye stain to check for any ulcers/scratches on the eye surface, and then prescribe eye ointment/drops to allow this to heal. It is possible that blowing in her face could have inadvertently caused dust or debris to go into her eye and cause irritation or there could be another cause altogether. Eye problems in dogs can't be treated with anything over the counter unfortunately, so its best to get her seen by your vet soon for treatment. He can have a possible infection or conjunctivitis since it is affected both eyes. Since the discharge is getting worse and he does not want to open his eyes, it is best he sees a vet to determine if there is a scratch on the cornea or just an infection. There is topical antibiotics +/- a steroid to help clear them. The only thing you can do at home is rinse with sterile eye wash and try to apply a warm compress to help with the swelling.

I consider any swelling of the eye to be an emergency. It may simply be a touch of conjunctivitis but potentially there could be damage to the cornea, or a similar more serious injury. You can soothe the eye with a cooled tea bag for immediate relief, but I would have it checked asap.

That looks like chemosis - swelling of the conjunctiva. The underlying cause, I don't know. All the things I can think of that can cause chemosis should easily resolve with topical steroids. Since it is not resolving, then yes, I think a consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist would be necessary at this point. Best wishes.
