My Golden has eye swelling, squinting, and diarrhea. Vet visit needed?

You should take him to the vet today to get it checked and treated, it could be an infection, an allergic reaction or a foreign body in the eye. i am not sure the diarrhea is related to the eye condition.

Hello and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. What I see in the picture looks to be what we call Chemosis, or swelling of the eyelid conjunctiva. Causes of chemosis would include bacterial or viral keratitis, foreign object under the third eyelid, trauma, orbital cellulitis or a tumor of the eye. I would recommend having Maggie examined by a veterinarian. More testing needs to be done. A topical anesthetic applied to the eye will help facilitate a more accurate eye examination. A veterinary ophthalmologist may also be someone that needs to look at this further as they typically have more diagnostic equipment than a general practitioner. Horner's syndrome is a collection of symptoms that result from problems with nerves responsible for the movement of the eyelids and the pupil. Horner's syndrome in a puppy would be extremely rare. It is difficult to tell from the picture if one or both eyes are affected, and I cannot see much of the eyes or pupils. If you came to this diagnosis because he is holding one eye closed, there are some things that are more likely, such as a corneal ulcer or conjunctivitis. I always recommend taking eye problems seriously, as they can become rapidly worse. So I do think a trip to your veterinarian is warranted. Hello. Oh, dear, having breathing issues can be very serious. We have to think about heart or lung issues, including heartworm disease, bronchitis, pneumonia, or even heart failure. You do not mention how old your pet is as this may rule out some conditions, but any breathing issues are serious. The eye discharge can also be a reflection of a pet feeling unwell. I would strongly recommend having your vet examine your golden. Since the diarrhea has lasted for 48 hours, he should be seen by your veterinarian. The swelling could be an anal gland abscess or a tumor. An abscess will need to be lanced and drained. A tumor should be aspirated or biopsied to collect samples for pathology. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking until he sees the doctor.
