Dog's eye red and painful after kennel. Should I take her to the vet?

Macy has what looks to me like a blood vessel popped in her eye, my husband scolded her for having an accident and put her in the kennel.. after a couple of hours I went to get her to take her to potty but she kept yelping in pain and when I examined her to see what the problem was I noticed her eyes looked really really red.. I tried to snap a picture but she wouldn’t let me.. I’m putting an ice pack on her eye til the morning..

Poor Macy! Without being able to see her eye, I can't say for sure what might be going on. But if she is acting painful and the eye is visibly red or bloody, I would be concerned that she may have injured it somehow in the crate.

Eye problems should always be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, since there can sometimes be permanent damage or vision loss if treatment is delayed - so ideally, I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic tonight to be seen. If this isn't possible, I would take her to see your regular vet first thing in the morning.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Oh goodness! Poor Paris! Sadly Paris needs to see a Vet for her eye. A painful red eye needs immediate Veterinary care. Possible causes are: a corneal ulcer, infection, allergies, trauma, inflammation or glaucoma. There are specific medications that are safe for the eye and she needs a diagnosis first. I am so sorry that Tasha has hurt her eye. I am concerned that she has injured her eye and that it could get worse if not properly treated. I would recommend to take her to your veterinarian for an exam, diagnostics, and possibly eye medication. Your vet may want to stain her eye to ensure there isn't a scratch on her cornea. There is a good chance that it could be just bruised or irritated, but I would rather be safe than sorry and have her eye get worse and/or infected. I hope that sweet girl's eye starts to feel better soon!

My dog's eyes are red and swollen after boarding. Is it serious?

This can be caused by either an eye injury/trauma from playing or by an eye infection (common in boarding kennels), either way you must take her to the vet to get the eye checked and she will probably need a prescription antibiotic eye drops to solve this problem.

My 11-year-old dog has a red eye and poor vision. What's wrong?

Poor Maggie! Red eyes can occur for a variety of conditions, including corneal ulcers, anterior uveitis, blood clotting disorders, infectious conjunctivitis, among others. Eyes are delicate structures and can progress rapidly, so I recommend taking Maggie to her vet fairly urgently for evaluation to get to the bottom of things. Until you can get to the vet, put an e-collar (cone) on Maggie to prevent her from rubbing or scratching her eye, as this can make matters worse. I hope that she feels better soon!
