Dog's eye has recurring infection after injury. What should I do?

Poor Troubles! A tooth root abscess can be a difficult thing to get rid of. I would see your vet as he likely needs oral antibiotics and pain meds. He will also need that tooth extracted as usually the abscess will continue to come back and never completely heal until that tooth is removed. I hope this helps!

Swelling directly under the eye is often an indication of a tooth root abscess. This occurs when there is severe dental disease and the tooth root becomes infected and created the pus pocket. That will depend on why he has infections there, I think your vet who has seen the socket can better advise you on that. There may be a foreign body in there that may need to be removed, or a tumor, at least something is irritating that side of the head and that will need to be investigated. I think you need to discuss this with your vet and, rather than sowing the eye socket shut, it may only be necessary to debride the area and clean it up and then resuture it.

The best way to provide the best care for Bree is to keep the veterinarian in the loop and have her examined anytime something seems different. The doctor may want to see Bree again to be safe. I am sorry to hear about your dog! I think you need to recheck with your vet if the initial treatment is not working. Your vet may need to do some additional testing such as a culture of the eye if infection is still a concern or testing of tear production. A different eye medication may be needed to treat this condition.
