My dog has a pus pocket under her eye that wont heal what do I do?

Swelling directly under the eye is often an indication of a tooth root abscess. This occurs when there is severe dental disease and the tooth root becomes infected and created the pus pocket. Treatment for this is a dental cleaning with an extraction of the affected tooth. I would recommend a trip to your vet to check out the mouth and see if this is the problem. I hope this helps. When there is pus, and it does look like it, it needs to come out. Pus is usually made up of a lot of bacteria, dead cells and cell debris and inflammatory debris. This is one way of the body to get rid of detrimental material. Unfortunately the body cannot always get rid of this pus by itself, so lancing can speed up the evacuation process and healing time. So, believe your vet and let him help your dog, Antibacterial flushes and ointments will likely not help and can damage the eye. Oral antibiotics may help, however it will take a long time until the body has transported off all the pus. It it much better just to evacuate it. Also an abscess like this is very painful and lancing it is immediate relief from pain.

Tasha needs to visit her veterinarian in order to treat this properly. She has an abscess or deep pocket of infection that needs to be properly flushed out and then she will require a prescription antibiotic that she will take for 1-2 weeks to treat the infection. It is also important that the veterinarian examine her teeth as this is a common site for an abscessed tooth to be the underlying cause of the abscess. It is possible that she may need a tooth extraction or other dental work. Treating this with peroxide alone is not going to clear up the infection. Please see your regular veterinarian ASAP. Poor Troubles! A tooth root abscess can be a difficult thing to get rid of. I would see your vet as he likely needs oral antibiotics and pain meds. He will also need that tooth extracted as usually the abscess will continue to come back and never completely heal until that tooth is removed. I hope this helps!

It looks like it is most likely an abscess, or pus filled pocket. Possibly from a bite or puncture wound? Without seeing and feeling it I can’t rule out the possibility of a tumor but at 9 months old that would be unlikely. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. In the meantime warm water and Epsom salt compresses can be helpful. The best way to provide the best care for Bree is to keep the veterinarian in the loop and have her examined anytime something seems different. The doctor may want to see Bree again to be safe.
