My dog's eye wound is sore, smelly, and full of pus. What's wrong?

I believe this is likely a tooth root abscess which could explain why it got better initially and now he worsen again as the main issue such as what is causing the abscess needs to be addressed as well. It sounds like this wound that became a lump that is oozing fluid has become an abscess, or a pocket of infected fluid. Abscesses form when infection is trapped under the skin or within tissues such as fat or muscle. The bacteria will try to find a way out, so they can break through the skin and create a "draining tract" of pus. This should be addressed by your veterinarian, who will likely drain the abscess and open it up to allow continuous drainage. Antibiotics for at least 2 weeks will be needed, along with pain medications. Depending on the size of the wound/abscess, a bandage may be needed. I hope this is helpful! I would recommend having this treated sooner rather than later and get in as soon as you can to have this taken care of. This appears to be an abscess and has ruptured. This needs to be drained and flushed out with an antiseptic solution as well as having him placed on oral antibiotics. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. You'll need to have Missy examined by your veterinarian. It may be local infection that abscessed or it may be a tooth root abscess. She may need to have it lanced, drained and flushed or she may need a complete dental cleaning and possibly an extraction. Antibiotics and pain management will likely be required as well. This is probably not something that can be treated at home nor will it heal on its own.

Poor Amos Tobias! I would not recommend using hydrogen peroxide on wounds, it can damage tissue and delay healing. If there is "goo" in it, I would have to wonder if that goo is pus, which means the wound is infected. He will need to see a vet for the wound. The vet can clean it sterilely, and can prescribe antibiotics for the infection. I would take him into the vet today during normal business hours.

The main problem with bite wounds is that you have to let the wounds declare themselves before knowing exactly what is going to happen at the end. It sounds like Zara's wound got infected and has now formed an abscess. She can develop a fever from this and this can make her feel quite sick. Also, it would be ideal to know the true extent of her injuries. For this reason, I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Your veterinarian would be able to prescribe medications for pain control and also antibiotics to treat her infection which is the only way it can resolve. Good luck! Ouch, poor Wups! He could have injured himself leading to the sore. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap, then have him seen by a vet. If the blood is cloudy, I would be concerned the sore is infected and he will need antibiotics to treat the infection. The vet is the only one who can prescribe them. Have him seen by a vet today if possible, but not as an emergency; otherwise, have him seen by a vet tomorrow.
