Why does my dog's one eye get puffy and leaky every few months?

It is a little difficult to tell from the photo, but it looks like one of Charlie's eyes is looking upwards and is protruding slightly. This can be caused by damage to the nerves or muscles that control the movement of the eye, glaucoma, or a mass behind the eye. i recommend having Charlie seen by a vet as soon as possible, as eye conditions are frequently painful and can quickly turn into emergencies. In the meantime, you can get him an E-collar or "cone" to make sure that he does not scratch or rubt he eye, causing further trauma. I hope this helps and that all is well with Charlie!

It certainly looks as though Chavo has somehow irritated his eye and likely has continued to rub it causing more irritation. My biggest concern would be that he has scratched his cornea (the outermost surface if his eye) which can be a very painful condition and can lead to infection. There is also a chance that the irritation and discharge is just from allergies, this would be the best case scenario. Since you are unable to bring Chavo in to see a vet you could try calling your vet and see if they can recommend an over the counter allergy medication that may help. Good luck!

This sounds unusual, it is definitely not normal. Without seeing what the eye looks like when it is puffy and inflamed it is hard to tell what's going on. In the picture you provided the eyes look normal. I would recommend taking your dog to the vet to have his eyes checked out to make sure there is nothing too serious going on. He may simply have some allergies and need to be on an antihistamine in the evenings to prevent his eyes from becoming irritated and swollen.

Yes, it could be allergy related. I believe I just responded to your other question (https://www.petcoach.co/question/?id=293456), but did not see the photos. Based upon these photos, it appears that Coco's third eyelid is certainly inflamed/irritated. It does not quite resemble a cherry eye in the photos, but simply looks inflamed. The third eyelid can become inflamed for many causes, the primary one being allergies (to fleas, food or the environment). It can also become inflamed as a result of other inflammatory issues in the eye (corneal ulcers or uveitis). If Coco is rubbing at his eye at all, make sure he is wearing an e-collar (cone) until his appointment. As long as his eye does not dramatically get worse, causing him to squint, you should not need to rush to a vet immediately as I had previously mentioned in my other answer. This could be a few things. Most of the time this indicates and infection. I recommend to figure out if this is the case by having Charli examined by the veterinarian. Charli may get antibiotic eye drops to see if the treatment makes the discharge go away. Another reason could be an abnormal sinus. In this case, some of these kitties will respond to cat lysine given every day. Most of these kitties will still have some drainage and you will want to keep track of what is normal for Charli. Less commonly, a blocked tear duct can also cause this issue, Continue keeping the eye clean. This will help to prevent any issues with infection on the skin due to increased moisture.
