Is my puppy's eye bump with pus an irritation? What can I do?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Bumps on eye-lids can be cysts, but they can also be other masses like tumors. For this reason getting it checked is recommended. In the mean-time, I would check for squinting, moving away from your hand when you go to pet him on that side of the face, redness/blueness/whiteness of the eye-ball itself that is different from the other eye, or scratching/pawing at the eye. If any of these are occuring, then I would take Marley to a vet. If he isn't too concerned about it, and isn't squinting or moving away from you, and is only minimally pawing at it, then I would recommend getting an E-collar (you can pick one up from any emergency clinic without an appointment as it is now late in Australia), to prevent ongoing trauma to the eye which can get much much worse with scratching. I would then get Marley to your vet in the morning. Best of luck with Marley.

Thank you for including the picture, it is really helpful. The little bumps and the look of the lesion is starting to be suspicious of a mite called demodex mite. It is very common in puppies, and is not usually itchy (but it can be). A skin scrape should be done to look for the mites. Of Course other possibilities include skin infection or ringworm. Lesions like this can be a few things including a skin tumor, an ingrown hair, an infection or a blocked pore. You may monitor this lesion for the next week. Protect the area from scratching or rubbing with an elizabethan collar if needed and you may apply a warm (not hot) compress twice a day for 5 minutes. Check the lesion every day. If the lesion does not start improving within a week or if it is getting worse, have him examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It may just be a stye or even an insect bite. As long as it isn't bothering him, I wouldn't be worried about it and just recommend monitoring it. A lot of times these go away on their own. However, if it is bothering him I would recommend placing an e-collar on him to prevent him from rubbing his face for now, then get him seen by your vet for medications to help it resolve. Poor Brody! There are a number of different things that could cause a swelling like this - it could be an abscess (possibly related to an infected tooth), some kind of inflammatory reaction, or even some type of tumor. This should definitely be checked out by your veterinarian in person, so I would recommend taking him in for an exam as soon as you're able to. He/she can take a closer look at the area and will advise you on what kind of treatment is needed.

Hi there! Yes, puppies can get pimples, and that very well may be what this is. It looks like it's right in the location where his canine tooth rubs on his lip, and if this tooth is new, some irritation may be happening here. It could also be an insect bite, skin parasite, or a localized infection. If it doesn't clear up, gets worse, or appears to be causing Brody any discomfort, I suggest having a vet take a look at it. In the meantime, you can try keeping it clean with a dilute soap and water solution, but Brody may not like it! I wouldn't bother applying any topical ointments to it as he'll likely just lick it right off. Good luck, and I hope Brody's little lip irritation goes away soon!

As long as Chief is not showing any other symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. then I would just monitor this for now and see if these go down on their own. If more begin to show up, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendation can be made. I hope this helps!
