Dogs exposed to gas from stove. Should I call emergency vet?

If your cats are acting normally at this time there should be nothing to worry about. Continue to monitor them closely and keep the windows open and fans on if you can. If you notice any symptoms such as neurological changes/mentation change, lethargy or vomiting, then you may want to have them checked out. Poor babies! This is most likely due to the stress of the situation. You can take them out to get some fresh air if you are concerned about the carbon monoxide. If they were truly affected by the gas then you would also be feeling it. These detectors are SO loud to us - they are even louder to dogs. Give them some time to calm down. If they continue to be in distressed or if they are ever labored breathing then I would have your vet take a look at them. I hope this helps!

Serious carbon monoxide poisoning can cause blue/grey gums, increased breathing/gasping or extreme lethargy. If an alarm went off, the people and the animals were removed from the house, the problem fixed, and the house aired-out, there is little concern. If your puppy is eating, playing, and has pink gums, I would not be concerned. Unless there was severe hypoxia (oxygen starvation) to the brain - requiring hospitalization or blood transfusion, I do not expect any long term effects for Sky. The safest bet would be to take Graham to the vet or to a veterinary ER as any respiratory issues are especially concerning in brachycephalic breeds (including pug mixes) that have compromised airways due to their anatomy. Smoke inhalation can be very serious in dogs (as well as all animals and humans), resulting in inflammation of their airways. Many chemicals in smoke can also cause airways damage. Your vet/ER vet may recommend keeping him in an oxygen cage and administering steroids and/or bronchdiators until he is breathing normally again. I would definitely keep him inside until you are able to bring him to the vet. Good luck!

Similar to humans, fumes can be irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract. If the ventilation was appropriate enough that you were comfortable then likely your dog was too. If you were wearing a mask then your dog probably should not be in that area. Watch for any coughing or difficulty breathing. Depending on how many they ate your dogs may do fine, may have excessive sedation or may have neurological side effects. As they cannot be examined by a veterinarian there's nothing at home you can do to prevent any side effects, if they are going to have any.

It is very very unlikely that such a small quantity of smoke could have affected your dog causing any toxicity, but if you notice any sign related to the respiratory tract (coughing sneezing persistent panting dyspnoea ) it would be best to have your dog checked at your local veterinarian.
