My dog is drooling excessively but seems fine. What could be the cause?

Poor Lola. Unless she is foaming at the mouth, there is excessive drool from her mouth, vomiting, refusing to eat, or acting abnormal then I would watch her closely. If the drool is continuing tomorrow or becomes excessive, then I would consider taking her to your emergency vet. Drooling can be a sign of toxin ingestion but they usually are drilling excessively and it isn’t just from one side of the mouth. She could be drooling due to nausea, a tooth problem, oral ulcers, tumors in the mouth and much more. Your vet will be able to help determine the cause if she continues. I hope this helps.

Drooling/salivation could be caused by a number of things, including stress, excitement, nausea, dental pain, toxin ingestion, a foreign body stuck in the mouth, injury to the tongue (as can happen with electrical injury from chewing on electrical cords) or bloat. If Vinny could have eaten anything such as medications, household cleaners, plants, toys, food scraps, or garbage, please have him seen by a vet right away, and let your vet know about it to help them determine if there could be toxicity. If no medical cause is noted, it could be stress/excitement induced, and I recommend working with a trainer who uses positive reinforcement techniques to help manage Vinny's stress and help him feel comfortable around other dogs.

Hi there and thank you for your post! It sounds like Riley may have gotten into something outside. Hypersalivation can be from many possible causes. With his age, I would suspect something irritating (chemical, toad, insect sting) or something stuck in his oral cavity. Have you looked inside his mouth to ensure there isn't a stick or something stuck? If not, I would rinse out his mouth with the hose on low pressure and see if that helps. If there is any swelling, I would give a dose of Benadryl and take him to your veterinarian right away in case this is a severe allergic reaction. The dose of Benadryl would be 100mg if Riley's weight is indeed 100lb. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions / concerns

Either sh chewed/ingested something that is causing this reaction in her mouth or she may be experiencing severe nausea. give it a couple hours to calm down, if it doesn't get any better by then- take her to your vet to get it checked and treated.

Hypersalivation can be caused by issues swallowing, nausea, or dental disease. Sometimes, twigs or sharp objects can get logded between the teeth or in the palate, so you can take a look in Kola's mouth if he will allow it safely. Unfortunately, their is no "quick fix" as the cause is not known. If you believe that Kola is having trouble swallowing (dribbling water, unable to swallow food) he should be seen immediately, as he may aspirate and can develop pneumonia. Otherwise, you should monitor him closely and have him seen as soon as possible.

Excessive drooling can happen if something is irritating the mouth. This could be a soap, but would have to be fairly concentrated to cause a great deal of drooling. House plants are another common irritant that will cause a dog to drool if they chew on them. The other possibility is that she has a sore in her mouth or bad dental disease. It would be best to have a good look in her mouth to check for any problems. If you are unable to find the cause of this, then it would be best to have a vet check her in the next day or two. Excessive drooling can be caused by mouth problem (bad teeth, abscesses, wounds, blisters on the gums), stomach diseases (excessive acid production, reflux), infections, pain, nausea and more. Please, take Daisy to your local vets for an appointment. Excessive drooling should be always investigated and treated as required. Your vet may recommend some blood work or x-ray to find out what the is the problem. Good luck :)
