Why is my mini schnauzer drooling a lot? Could it be the water bowl?

This usually happens when something is irritating their mouth. This could be due to Bella chewing on a house plant, an insect, frog, or irritating chemical. They can also drool a lot if there is bad dental disease, or a laceration in the mouth. It's best to have a good look in Bella's mouth and see if you can detect anything out of the ordinary. It's also good to gently flush out her mouth (can use a hose for this) with water for a minute or two. If she happens to cough, then this indicates you are flushing too hard, or too much. If she starts vomiting, behaving differently, or has other concerning signs of a problem, then it's best to have a vet evaluate her as soon as possible. I hope that helps and all is well with Bella.

Excessive drooling can be caused by mouth problem (bad teeth, abscesses, wounds, blisters on the gums), stomach diseases (excessive acid production, reflux), infections, pain, nausea and more. Please, take Daisy to your local vets for an appointment. Excessive drooling should be always investigated and treated as required. Your vet may recommend some blood work or x-ray to find out what the is the problem. Good luck :)

Too much drool, or hypersalivation, can be a sign of illness. Here are some causes: Heat stroke and heat exhaustion, nausea and anxiety can cause episodes of drooling. Mouth disease and tooth decay: Tarter buildup can rub against the inside of your dog’s lip, causing drool. To check, pull his lip back toward his ear. Do his teeth look like concrete? Are they brown? Are his gums red, swollen, or bleeding? If so, try a professional cleaning and then daily brushing. Your vet can check for gingivitis, mouth ulcers, and tumors as well. Organ disease: Liver and kidney diseases, for example, can cause drooling. As they age, dogs are more likely to get sick. Vets suggest annual checkups to diagnose and treat diseases early. Poisonous plants: Common plants like tulips, azaleas, and chrysanthemums can not only make your dog drool, but also make him sick. Keep your dog from eating them. For a list of poisonous plants, consult the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Stomachaches: Dogs don’t tend to think before eating. Vets report pulling some strange items from their stomachs, from tennis balls to socket wrenches. This can cause nausea, discomfort and pain. Keep dangerous items away from him. Upper respiratory infections: Drooling can signal an infection of the nose, throat, or sinuses. Dogs that live in homes or shelters with other pets have a higher risk. Stress is also a factor. Only your vet can properly treat an infection. But you can take steps to protect your dog: Keep him indoors, away from other pets, and wash your hands between handling different animals. You’re the best judge of your dog’s behavior. If he’s acting strange for more than a day, he seems stressed, or he is not eating and playing as usual, it’s wise to see a vet.

Excessive salivation is typically an indicator of nausea, a dental problem, exposure to a toxin, or a neurologic issue. If you are unable to go to the veterinarian, you can certainly try an over the counter anti-nausea medication to see if this helps should it persist. If cupcake will allow it, you can also try to open her mouth to see if there are any obvious dental issues that you can readily identify. A neurologic problem would definitely need to be assessed by a professional in order to determine what the origin of it might be and if there are other subtler clinical signs you may not be noticing. Hypersalivation can be caused by issues swallowing, nausea, or dental disease. Sometimes, twigs or sharp objects can get logded between the teeth or in the palate, so you can take a look in Kola's mouth if he will allow it safely. Unfortunately, their is no "quick fix" as the cause is not known. If you believe that Kola is having trouble swallowing (dribbling water, unable to swallow food) he should be seen immediately, as he may aspirate and can develop pneumonia. Otherwise, you should monitor him closely and have him seen as soon as possible.

Excessive drooling can be a sign of nausea, eating something toxic or bitter, tooth problem (such as infection), or a salivary duct blockage, among other things. If the excessive drooling continues, Scoopy should be seen by a vet to determine what's causing the drooling. However, if it has already resolved then you can simply monitor Scoopy for any further symptoms.

Drooling is a sign of nausea which could be caused by something she ate. She may correct herself, so I would suggest perhaps monitoring her for the next 6 hrs to see if this behavior stops. If she continues to drool and/or other symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite) develop then that is definitely a good time to get her checked by your local veterinarian. Other possible causes of drooling are: problems with her teeth, infection, and nausea due to organ malfunction (i.e. kidneys, liver, etc). You can also offer her a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for the next few feedings to see if this too will help settle her stomach.
