Why is my dog suddenly drooling and foaming after being outside?

Hello, this could be associated with ingestion of any caustic chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide. Teething can also cause this although by 7month old he should have he adult teeth, however each dog may differ in timing. Having something stuck in his mouth can also cause this. The salivation could also be a sign that he is feeling nausea and may want to vomit. Monitor him for persistent hyper salivation, vomiting, a decreased appetite or lethargy and have him evaluated by a veterinarian if he develops any of these. Hope this helps and best of luck.

How cute is Buddy! It is possible that Buddy may have came in to contact with a bug, frog/toad, or some foreign material in his mouth while he was sniffing underneath the bush that caused him to foam at the mouth. Some frogs or bugs will release an irritating substance when they feel threatened by a predator; this can cause excessive salivation and "foaming" if it comes in to contact with the mouth. Typically these are harmless, but there are some toxic toads (i.e. Bufo toad)depending on your location. There is the potential that Buddy could have been stung by an insect that caused these signs, too. Since Buddy was back to normal by the time you arrived home, I would suspect it was harmless. I would just keep a close eye on Buddy when he is nosing around the bushes again.

Sometimes, twigs or sharp objects can get logded between the teeth or in the palate, so you can take a look in Kola's mouth if he will allow it safely. First, and most importantly, I always ask if a drooling dog has had a rabies vaccine and if they may have come in contact with a wild animal or another dog or cat with unknown vaccine history. If any of the above is the case, even though the chances are low, I would still take precautions and make sure to avoid contact with the saliva or bodily fluids until Oliver sees his veterinarian. If he has had his rabies vaccine, or there is little to no chance that he could have come in contact with another infected animal, then I would be a little less cautious, but still take him in to see his veterinarian. He could be nauseous, which is a very common cause of nausea. This could be because he ate something he shouldn't have and it is bothering his stomach, or he had a recent change in diet, or a new treat introduced. Sometimes rawhide type chews can break off into pieces and get stuck in the stomach causing intermittent nausea. Puppies can also sometimes eat things like pieces of toy, blanket, or even rocks! Another reason a puppy or dog may drool is due to something going on with the teeth - fracture or infection, for example. A piece of foreign material, like a foxtail awn, if they are common in your area, can cause excessively drooling if they become lodged in the oral cavity as well. The above are some reasons for drooling, but there are many more. To be safe, since Oliver is so young, I would make an appointment with his veterinarian to have him checked. They can make sure he doesn't need any tests to be run, like Xrays or blood work, and they can also send home some medications to make him feel better, should it be something like an upset tummy. If Vinny could have eaten anything such as medications, household cleaners, plants, toys, food scraps, or garbage, please have him seen by a vet right away, and let your vet know about it to help them determine if there could be toxicity. If no medical cause is noted, it could be stress/excitement induced, and I recommend working with a trainer who uses positive reinforcement techniques to help manage Vinny's stress and help him feel comfortable around other dogs.
