My dog has Eimeria, but no symptoms. Does he need treatment?

Eimeria is a species of coccidia. You will need to use a coccidiostatic medication to get rid of these. The ones that come to mind that you can obtain over the counter include amprolium, corid, and albon. I am not able to provide you with dosage on here, but you should be able to locate this information within a veterinary formulary or through a vet with which you already have an established relationship.

A roundworm dewormer or any other broad spectrum dewormer such as Drontal should take care of the intestinal worms (Nematodes), the eimeria might be an accidental finding, it's usually non pathogenic in dogs (some species are but quite rare), i would ignore that for now unless your dog suffers from severe diarrhoea.

If your dog is not having diarrhea, then I would consider her a subclinical carrier. I would recommend treating her, however, as she is young with an inadequate immune system. Additionally, she can spread it to other dogs via her feces. The treatment is quite easy; a 5 day course of Albon. The dogs usually like the taste of it, and it is once a day only.

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Soft stool is not something thought to be caused by erhlichia so I don't think it's related. Antibiotic use can definitely result in softer stool so if you've just finished the antibiotics you may want to introduce a probiotic. A bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice may also help. If the softer stool persists or any other signs develop like vomiting, inappetance or lethargy then I would schedule a visit for Spock to see your veterinarian. I hope the diarrhea resolves quickly!

If June is not currently having diarrhea, then there is likely no reason to treat her. Giardia can be an incidental finding on a fecal exam, meaning that it's present but not causing any problems. In cases like this, the pet often remains Giardia-positive on fecal exam even if you do try and treat, so it usually doesn't do much good and isn't really necessary. If June is having persistent diarrhea, then of course that's a different story. In that case, the giardia may or may not be the main problem, but we would normally want to treat for it to see if this helps the diarrhea to resolve.

Hazel is adorable! Antibiotics are the treatment of choice for campylobaacter in dogs. Did your vet not prescribe any? It is not really a treatment for it but it will reduce the shedding of the bacteria from her.
