My dog has strongyloids in his poop. Can it clear up by itself?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Our vet says that our otherwise healthy dog has strongyloids in his stool. They won’t treat but haven’t really explained why. Will he clear the infection on his own?

I’m not clear why they won’t treat this but if he’s otherwise health his immune system will keep the parasites in check. I do recommend rechecking a fecal in a month or two to make sure this has resolved. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for your dog.
