My dog has strongyloids in his poop. Can it clear up by itself?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes! It does look like Brady is passing adult worms. If that is fresh stool and hasn't been sitting outside for hours. I recommend collecting a stool sample and having it tested by your Vet. The worms seem shorter and thicker than round worms so it is important to know if the is fresh stool or old stool since free living nematodes do come to eat stool. A stool sample (looking at the eggs) will help identify the exact parasite he is passing and then how to treat it. Dogs usually do acting normal when they have worms. He is only 6 months so intestinal parasites are common. I hope this helps and I wish Brady the best!

The longer feces sits outside on the grass the more likely free living nematodes will come to the stool or flies will lay eggs that become maggots. Interceptor is a great way to deworm dogs monthly. But to be 100% sure that your dogs do not have parasites, collect a fresh stool sample from BOTH dogs and drop them off at your vet to have them check for worms. Good luck!

With treatment, most pets will clear coccidia from their intestines. I recommend to have Bailey checked for coccidia by his veterinarian. Also keep in mind there are two primary species of coccidia and only one affects dogs. I hope this and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Interceptor does treat some intestinal parasites such as roundworms and hookworms, so it's possible that this may resolve the problem. If you don't see any improvement in his stool in the next 2-3 days, it would be best to take a fecal sample to your vet for testing - some types of intestinal parasites, such as tapeworms or coccidia, are not covered by Interceptor and would require a separate medication from your vet to treat.

Boozo is adorable. I am not sure if it was done or not but were the anal glands actually expressed? If it is an anal gland infection then they should be expressed and potentially flushed out and infused with antibiotics. If this was not done I would also consider getting a stool sample to make sure the Boozo does not have any intestinal parasites or a bacterial overgrowth. Depending on the stage of infection, it can take several days for all of the adult worms to die and be passed in the feces. It is normal to see different types of worms in the feces, as this product kills several types of worms, which are very common in puppies. If you notice that your puppy is continuing to have diarrhea after several days, I recommend bringing a stool sample from Blaze to your vet to determine which parasites are present.
