What happens if my dog eats a few fertilizer pellets? Are they toxic?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

My mom has a lot of flowers around the house and she has this fertilizers that look like small balls. My dad accidentally knocked one over and I immediately vacuumed to make sure my dog wouldn’t get one in his mouth. Are this toxic?

Hello. Without knowing what the ingredients are it is difficult to say, but if you managed to vacuum things up pretty quickly, I would not worry. Most plant fertilizers are not very toxic. Now, if your pet had managed to eat 1/2 a bag, there would be some concern, but if a few were eaten by accident or out of curiosity, Charlie will be just fine.
