My puppy has spots on his ears. What are they and should I worry?

Those spots on Pepper's ears could be due to superficial bacterial infections, superficial irritation or mites. Make sure Pepper does not scratch at them as this could cause them to worsen. Sometimes these little spots will clear on their own. I recommend to point them out to his vet when he is in for his next vaccine visit. The skin itself has a scaly and bump appearance to it, which often means there is a bacterial or fungal infection present. Hi there! Puppies get "puppy pyoderma" often which often presents as you have shown in the pictures. This is very common, and easy to treat. Sometimes antibiotics are not required and they go away on their own. If the rash spreads, etc. you can always make an appointment to see your veterinarian to make sure fleas or allergies are not contributing factors! My best to you an Milli. Hope this helps!

Without seeing your dog an being able to put our hands on him for an exam we can't really say for certain what is going on here. I wonder, however, if your dog has matted chunks of fur behind the ear that appear like a fur covered skin tag. It would be very unusual to see symmetrical skin tags in a dog this young, but not uncommon at all to see long matted hair in identical locations. A visit to your vet can help determine if this is what is going and and remove the matted hair if that is the case.

It's difficult to tell from the pictures but these specks appear to be in the hair rather than on the skin of the ear. My biggest suspicion is that they are potentially fleas and/or flea dirt. Thanks for the image. That could be an area of trauma or irritation. It may also be some localized infection (bacterial or fungal) or maybe a papillomatous growth (wart). If he is licking or chewing at the area, place an e-collar (cone) on him and schedule an exam with your veterinarian. If the spot is not bothering him and he is behaving normally otherwise, you can choose to monitor it at home for rapid change or growth, bleeding, discharge or discomfort. Should any of these symptoms develop, an exam with your veterinarian would be required to definitively diagnose the underlying cause. Any treatment will depend on the diagnosis.

Those areas could be little areas of bacterial infection, ingrown hairs or allergic reaction. You can try washing the area with soap once a day and rinse it well. Make sure she does not lick the area frequently as that will make it worse. An Elizabethan collar can help to prevent licking.
