my dog had earmites and i have been cleaining out his ears daily and adding medicated drops. however, he wimpers any time you touch his ears now and it appears to have gotten worse. apart from the mites there now seems to be a mucusy discharge the stinks pretty bad, and after i clean that out there is 6 or 7 q-tips full of bright red blood. i am very worried and dont know what it could be.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chico. The blood can be the result of a severe infection. The ear canal becomes very inflamed and bleeds easily with cleaning and medication application. If this continues or seems to be getting worse, then I would alert his veterinarian. In rare cases, a dog can have an allergic reaction to the ear medication. This can make the canal swollen, painful and more likely to bleed. The liquid could be excess ear cleaner or discharge from his infection. I hope this information helps!
