My puppy's ear is limp and sore after neuter, e-collar, or microchip?

I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that it can be determined if perhaps he still has some remaining inflammation/infection in the inner parts of the ear that could be causing that. Also, they can evaluate his cranial nerves to make sure that it is not primarily a neurologic issue. Good luck!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Head shaking is usually a signs of itchy ears, which may be due to the E-collar rubbing or pressing on them. If your veterinarian checked him yesterday and did not see or smell any ear infections, it is most likely the cone collar causing his head shaking. Obviously the cone is necessary while his incision is healing, so I recommend monitoring him at home. If the shaking becomes incessant or aggressive, I recommend contacting your veterinarian directly to see if he needs to be examined again. I hope this is helpful!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be signs of some form of trauma that is causing her pain or discomfort. I do not think that you damaged her hearing. It would be a good idea to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Sometimes this can be contributed to developmental factors and the cartilage in the ear becomes more firm in a particular position. Sometimes an ear infection can cause an ear to lay differently then the other. I would recommend having Lily's ears examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! If Jackie is still uncomfortable, I recommend calling back the veterinarian that treated him to discuss. Be sure not to give medications more frequently than prescribed, if two dose given less than 4 hours apart that may be too frequent. Some pain medications may cause restlessness, so it's important to discuss with his veterinarian to rule out other illness or medication side effect. I hope Jackie is better soon.

Monitor for redness, discharge, active bleeding or odor. A minor wound may heal on its own. Keep the area clean and dry. Use an e-collar (cone) to prevent scratching or rubbing if necessary. If it doesn't appear to be healing, see your veterinarian for an exam.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. I'm sorry that Lucy is having this problem. It is odd that the infection has cleared up but she still has sores on the ear flap. Is she scratching at the ears? If so, you really need to get her a cone collar to wear to prevent scratching. As long as she is scratching them, the will not heal. You can get a soft sided cone similar to this one: ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09RV2VG7Y ) You can certainly continue to apply Neosporin and it should not hurt her. She is probably just very sensitive and expecting the ears to hurt when you touch them. If you can apply the Neosporin twice daily for one week consistently the sores should heal. If they do not heal in that time frame, you need to take her back to your vet to figure out what is going on or go to a different vet for a second opinion. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
