Can I use baby wipes to clean my dog's ears, or should I use solution?

I would not recommend formulating your own ear cleaner and instead purchase a commercial ear cleaner. I would recommend using Zymox otic cleanser or Epi Otic ear cleanser. In my honest opinion, there are so many great ear cleansers out there I would always recommend buying one instead of making it. Years of research have gone into a lot of these products and they are truly the best to use on sensitive ears. If you are just cleaning for a maintenance clean or you are treating due to problems, it's always best to discuss the various products that your vet recommends. Homemade cleansers can often times not be pH balanced resulting in drying of the ear canal or pain/sting upon application. Good luck with Chloe.

I really like the Douxo Micellar Solution. It is great at breaking up waxy debris in the ears, it is gentle, and safe if the eardrum is not intact. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The MalAcetic Otic solution is very good as an ear cleanser so you can use for this. I would recommend you clean it twice weekly for now. However, if they continue to look dirty after using it consistently, it would be better to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as she may have an ear infection. Hopefully it resolves. Hi baby wipes are not formulated to be used around eyes. They can irritate the area and are not safe if they accidentally come in contact with eyes. There are wipes which are specifically made to used in this area for dogs, which would be a better choice. If you can’t get hold of these, then an alternative would be cool boiled water, to be used with cotton wool. Hope this helps !

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can try putting cotton in his ears to prevent excessive water getting into the canal. The best way is to clean the ears with an ear cleaner with alcohol (not straight alcohol) to dry the water after. Kisses to Tux!

Although relatively safe I would recommend using an alcohol free dog ear cleanser which is correctly balanced to help remove wax and help dry the ear also. If painful your dog should be assessed by your vet first to rule out infection or a ruptured ear drum and they can demonstrate safe ear cleaning and preventive care
