My dog's E-collar wound on his neck isn't healing. Should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old

Panda has an abrasion caused by his Elizabethan collar on his Adams apple am treating 3 times a day with electromycin spray and imflamol cream and leaving e collar off as much as I can but he still has stitches in chin and testicle area and he keeps rubbing or chewing at the stitches if given a chance but the throat wound happened 4 days ago and its not really healing does he need more treatment from vet or continue what I'm doing till Thur when stitch come out.

This is a tough situation! With out seeing the extend of the neck wound it is hard to give advice. I would go the pet store and find the bitter apple spray or lick guard and apply in on the skin (not the stitches) near the testicle area to discourage licking. Then I would consider a donut or softer E-collar to prevent rubbing and licking that hopefully won't continue to irritate the neck. But since the throat wound hasn't improved in 4 days you should have Panda rechecked sooner than Thursday. Maybe if it has been 10 days since the surgeries the stitches can be removed then.

It sounds like Panda may be having a reaction to the suture that is still under the skin. In these cases the dog typically needs to be put on an antibiotic and a steroid to help it clear up. I would recommend taking Panda back to the vet for another incision recheck and explain your concerns. My dog won't stop licking his wound. What can I do besides a cone?

Poor Panda! Unfortunately the safest and most effective thing in this case is going to be the E-collar. Ask your vet for tips on sizing and securing it to Panda. In some cases, a little anti-anxiety medication or sedation for a day or two can really help him keep that cone on. If it is truly a small graze, it is likely to heal in the next couple days as long as he keeps away from it. I also recommend keeping him inside if at all possible for the next couple days.

My dog's chin wound is red, scabby, and wet. Is it infected?

Signs of infection include redness, swelling, pain, discharge, and loss of function so if you notice this getting worse or other signs develop, take him back to have him re-evaluated. You can use some topical Neosporin or similar antibiotic ointment on the incision. Just make sure if doesn't contain hydrocortisone or a steroid. Good luck

Dog's neuter wound won't heal. What helps stop irritation and licking?

Hi there. I suggest you try this product. Apply a thin layer 2-3 times per day. Keep the E-collar on. If after a 4-5 days you are seeing minimal to no improvement then I suggest you take him back to your vet. https://www.animates.co.nz/aniwell-active-manuka-honey-ointment-100g.html As a side note, are you sure the E-collar is long enough go past the end of his nose? Why isn't my dog's neuter incision healing after two months?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At least based on these pictures, this looks almost healed. It just has a small area that appears to be close to healing but not quite. While neosporin is ok, I think the main thing to make it completely heal is making sure that he is unable to get to it and chew or lick at it. Please make sure to use an e-collar to try to prevent this. If you are able to keep him from getting to his incision, I think you should be able to get it to heal. You can continue to use the neosporin as that may speed up the healing process. However, make sure to not pick at any scabs as that will usually delay healing. Good luck and have a good night!

Neutered dog licking stomach, blister despite e-collar. Is it serious?

I would recommend getting a larger ecollar and let your veterinarian know that this has occurred. He probably is trying to get to the sutures and this is the only area he can reach. This will get worse if he keeps licking. Your vet may just extend his antibiotics or just tell you to keep it clean. His incision looks great!
