Dog's e-collar off, wound exposed. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 2 months and 22 days old | 20 lbs

My dogs E-Collar some how came off while I was outside mowing the grass. Earlier it had started to scab up. Now it’s seems exposed and possibly open. We are on day 6. I have now purchased onesies so that he is more comfortable and harder to get to his wound. Should I take Beau to the Vet?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

If you can keep the E-collar or onesie on him to prevent him from licking it should heal up just fine. Leave the E-collar/onesie on for at least 7-10 days. You do not need to apply anything to the incision; just leave it be.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.
