My dog drinks another dog's pee. Should I worry about Tramadol?

He should be fine but all animals can have a different reaction to medications so just monitor him closely for the next 4-6 hours. Too much tramadol can cause sedation or agitation, wobbliness, disorientation, vomiting, tremors and possibly seizures. He ingested the very top end of the dosage he could have for his weight. I suspect he will just be very sleepy.

There is a large dosing range with tramadol and it is a fairly safe drug so Teddy should be fine. Teddy’s max dose would be about 80mg and he ingested much less than that. You may note that he is more sedate/sleepy than normal but that will wear off in 8-12 hours once the drug is out of his system. Sometimes Tramadol can cause inappetance and GI upset as well so watch for these symtoms too. If Teddy is showing any other abnormal signs like vomiting, diarrhea, or neurologic signs, you should take him to the veterinarian immediately. That should not be a problem. The only risk is that Tramadol won't be effective. I would recommend to have Gum Gum checked if the signs (pain and inappetence) are not getting any better in the next 12-24hours.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I doubt ChaCha will have any adverse effects because 4 tabs is only slightly higher than the maximum labeled dose for a dog her size. But if she does, you are most likely to see sedation. Less likely you may see dysphoria - dilated pupils, vocalizing (this is NOT pain- it’s basically being “high”), pacing, panting, or other somewhat abnormal behavior. No, I would not give him your medication, as it is not prescribed for him and it's never safe to give a dog unprescribed human medication. I would refill it first thing Monday, and until then, you can give him glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis. I would also keep him quiet, taking him out to toilet on a lead only and bringing him right back in when he's done.

Tramadol can have a sedatitive effect that can depress activity level and appetite in higher doses. If your dog is only on this medication short term then I would not be very concerned. However if this is going to be used long term I would discuss changing the medication or the dose with the vet who prescribed it.
