My large dog ate other dog's Tramadol, Proin, Truprofin. Is he okay?

He should be fine but all animals can have a different reaction to medications so just monitor him closely for the next 4-6 hours. Too much tramadol can cause sedation or agitation, wobbliness, disorientation, vomiting, tremors and possibly seizures. He ingested the very top end of the dosage he could have for his weight. I suspect he will just be very sleepy.

There is a large dosing range with tramadol and it is a fairly safe drug so Teddy should be fine. Teddy’s max dose would be about 80mg and he ingested much less than that. You may note that he is more sedate/sleepy than normal but that will wear off in 8-12 hours once the drug is out of his system. Sometimes Tramadol can cause inappetance and GI upset as well so watch for these symtoms too. If Teddy is showing any other abnormal signs like vomiting, diarrhea, or neurologic signs, you should take him to the veterinarian immediately. Yes he should be fine. I would recommend just waiting until the morning to give another dose. Trazadone and tramadol can both cause sedation so please monitor for signs of severe sedation. If you notice any vomiting,diarrhea or severe sedation I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic.

Havoc should be absolutely fine after ingesting the Proin tablet! He ingested approximately 4.4 mg/kg (milligrams per kilogram of body weight), and more serious signs of toxicity usually occur with doses over 15 mg/kg. There is a chance that Havoc may experience agitation, vomiting, decreased heart rate or elevated blood pressure. While these signs generally resolve within 24 hours of ingestion, it would be ideal to take Havoc to his vet for an exam and blood pressure measurement. I hope this helps!

The low end of the toxic dose range is 50mg/kg, which is about 1500mg. He should be fine but if you begin to notice signs of vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy or inappetance then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gerson! I know you are worried but you did NOT overdose him. There is a wide dose range for tramadol of 4-10mg/kg. He is 10 kg so a whole 50 mg tablet is 5mg/kg. He is just sensitive to it. Tramadol is an opiod so he is, for a lack of a better word, a bit high. I, like your Vet, start lower at 2.5mg/kg which is the 1/4 tablet. I would watch him and in 4-8 hours he should be normal. Good luck!

Tramadol is metabolized in the liver and its metabolites are excreted in the urine. it is unlikely the smaller dog will be harmed by any tramadol in the urine. greater concern is the drinking of the urine itself. This may lead to stomach upset. Restrict access to dog wastes and provide plenty of fresh water. If the smaller dog seems excessively thirsty, a work up with your veterinarian is recommended. Unless he or she is exhibiting discomfort associated with the hip dysplasia, pain medication is likely not indicated. A joint supplement, weight control and regular exercise would be beneficial.
