My dog is drinking and peeing a lot. Should I go to the emergency vet?

I think that if he urinates 2 more times or more, that means that he is urinating more frequently which would warrant an evaluation by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Urinary signs like this can be observed with something like a urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, among other possibilities. If he is still able to pass urine and does not seem in discomfort, you could probably wait until Monday. If he is unable to urinate or appears to be in discomfort, he should be evaluated by an emergency veterinarian before Monday. Good luck and have a great day! I hope he is just fine.

An enlarged prostate would be very unlikely in a dog this young. Dogs can however develop urinary tract infections or bladder stones that can make them urinate frequently. If this has been a recent change I'd recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian.

As long as he is acting normal and he does not have any problems with urination, it should be ok to wait until the morning to see your regular vet. Please, offer Fynn plenty of water to drink tonight. If you manage to catch a urine sample and take it with you to your vets in the morning, that will be of great diagnostic help.

There are a number of things that can cause a dog to drink more and urinate more. Unfortunately, there isn't any way to know what is causing the problem without doing some testing. Usually the first test will be to have your veterinarian evaluate a urine sample. That may be able to tell us what is going on, but if it doesn't, then they may also need to check some blood work. Drinking and urinating a lot can be due to a many different things. The more common problems are excess heat in environment, increased salt intake, liver disease, kidney disease, toxin ingestion (antifreeze is a common one) certain infections, diabetes and Cushing's disease. Without more information and being able to examine Tiddles, it's difficult to know what the cause is, but considering this could indicate a severe problem, it's best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. It doesn't seem to be an emergency right now, but it's best to have him checked-out within the next 24 hours. The vet will be able to better assess his condition and recommend further testing if needed. To be honest, the increased drinking and appetite worry me more than the diarrhea and itching. That combination can signal diabetes (needs attention right away) or a different hormone disease called Cushing’s disease (is inconvenient but will need to be managed). The diarrhea and itching are another layer of complication which may or may not be related to the other two. Either way, I’d say ER vet tomorrow is ideal, though since he is clearly eating and drinking, it is not wrong to wait the extra 24 hours to see your regular vet. Best wishes to you and Stitch!

This could be due to a urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, urinary tract tumor, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Bobot evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least, he can be started on medications to make him feel better. Good luck!
