My dog won't eat for two days and peed blood. Is this an emergency?

Reasons for blood in the stool include colitis, intestinal parasites and dietary indiscretion and some possible reasons of blood in the urine include urinary tract infections, urinary stones and even tumors. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. I am so sorry to hear that your dog is so unwell. From what you are describing it sounds possible that he could have ingested a toxin, have a urinary tract infection, an infection of the prepuce, or an issue with his kidneys. Because he is so lethargic and not eating I would suggest a trip to the veterinarian as soon as possible to a diagnosis and appropriate treatment. If you can collect a urine sample to bring in that would be helpful. In the meantime you can try the following at home; Keep up fluids with; Pedialyte flavourless mixed with water 50/50 Low sodium chicken broth Encourage eating; Chicken boneless and cooked Low fat ground beef cooked Best of luck and ask any further questions you have here, we are here to support you. Hello. This could be a result of a serious bladder infection, prostatitis, urinary bladder stones, a bleeding polyp/mass or trauma. This definitely warrants a trip to your veterinarian ASAP. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Julie! Blood in the urine can indicate a urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine or bladder stones. She may not be eating because she is uncomfortable or has a fever. I recommend that Julie sees a Veterinarian. They may check her urine for infection or crystals. If she is older they may want to run blood work. They also may want to take an X-ray to check for a bladder stone. If it is a urinary tract infection she needs antibiotics. If it is crystals in the urine then we usually change the diet. If bladder stones, ideally surgery is recommended. I hope this helps and I wish Julie a speedy recovery!

Urinating blood can indicating a bladder infection or something potentially life threatening like a clotting disorder. The fact that he is also committing indicates systemic illness. The veterinarian will perform a physical exam and then recommend diagnostics such as urinalysis bloodwork or possibly radiographs (xrays). Good luck and I hope he’s better soon.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor George!! Is George trying to poop or pee? If he is trying to pee and only blood is coming out then that is an emergency. He could be obstructed meaning something like a stone/tumor/crystals are blocking his ability to urinate. Or he could have a UTI, which isn't as much of an emergency. If George is straining to poop and blood is coming out then he likely has diarrhea with secondary inflammation, which is causing the blood. Anytime we see blood we like to start the pet on antibiotics. So I do recommend having him seen today by your Vet. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, ate something gross that is upsetting his stomach, viral or bacterial infections, pancreatitis, underlying metabolic conditions (kidney or liver problems), food allergy or sensitivity. I highly recommend taking Red back to the veterinarian and consider an abdominal ultrasound to evaluate his bladder and kidneys. My concern is there is some type of damage that may have not been able to be seen on xrays. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
