My 1-year-old dog pees too much. Is it normal or a vet emergency?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hello I have a dog who is a little over a year old. Every time he goes out to go out the bathroom, he excessively pees. Is this a normal for male dogs his age or could he have an enlarged prostate? I don't want to take him in if it's not something urgent.

An enlarged prostate would be very unlikely in a dog this young. Dogs can however develop urinary tract infections or bladder stones that can make them urinate frequently. If this has been a recent change I'd recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian.
