My dog drank blue toilet water, has diarrhea & low energy. What now?

Consider an exam and diagnostics with your veterinarian since conservative treatment has not improved the condition. Blood work can assess major organ function. Endoscopy may diagnose damage done to the esophagus or stomach by the CLR. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, gastric protectants and parenteral nutrition) may be indicated until a diagnosis is reached or until your dog recovers.

For that reason, I would highly recommend you have Cash evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check on this and treat him appropriately. It could be there was something in the water that has upset Bentley’s stomach, leading to the softer stools and drinking more water. I’d keep an eye on him for now. Hello. If your toilet was relatively clean, there is nothing to worry about as the water that goes to the toilet is the same that comes from the main line into the house for drinking. If your toilet is less than pristine, then thee is a small possibility of a bacterial infection. Forget about giardia, this is a parasite that is found in streams & bodies of water contaminated by wildlife feces. In the small chance that there was enough bacteria in the toilet water to cause an illness, you should watch for vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, loss of appetite, bloating or signs of abdominal pain. Most signs should show in the next 48-72 hours, so if Bentley makes it through the weekend with no problems, he will be perfectly fine. If possible, please take Bailey to your local emergency service for an appointment tonight. If this is not an option, you should withhold any water or food overnight, offer him very small amount of water in the morning and take him to your regular vets as soon as they open on Saturday morning.

Based on the information provided, I'm not clear as to how long the loss of appetite and other symptoms have been going on, but I'm assuming more than 24 hours. It sounds like your big man normally has a very healthy appetite. The symptoms do seem pretty vague, but if they are becoming more frequent, it is definitely time to see your veterinarian. Lots of things could cause Cash to stop eating; everything from a virus, to a blockage from something he ate, or kidney or liver disease, and more. Your veterinarian will likely want to start checking some bloodwork and maybe getting abdominal xrays. The previous episode of diarrhea may or may not be related, but I think it is time to look into this further. In response to your question "could this be something serious", that is harder to answer. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Blue evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results.
